I'm all for crowdsourcing honor. Once the episode drops properly, someone start a new thread and begin the tally. We probably need Tyler, Stork, Dave and Kimi to post their starting honors.

Curse them for teasing me in such a manner! Yeah..I listen at work so I need to wait for the iTunes......Grrrrrr...... Me too. Can we the audience also have a say in awarding glory? Sometimes it's often overlooked.

And let record show in the last thread, that I did not think Stork's character was doing anything dishonorable. I may not be an expert in the Rokugan, but even I know that caution is not dishonorable. Caution and attacking from stealth are different. /incharacter The honourable man does not need to skulk about and hide his intent.

But they were outnumbered and needed a tactical advantage. After all, it is dishonorable to throw away your life for your lord.

Were they outnumbered? I'm pretty sure there were the four of them and the three lion women vs 3? maybe 4 Crab?
And throwing away your life? What if Stork had storked his stealth role? then the crab thought he was a brigand and fired arrows at him?!
Thankfully that didn't happen. and they all were happy together.

Well, I believe when they initially approached the Crab (and Stork was hiding in the shadows) there were only two of them the rest were a ways back by the side of the road.

I want to talk about... Things that happened in this episode. But I haven't seen it pop up in Downcast yes. Has it dropped?

Well poop.
I guess my caution in the avoidance of spoilers was well-founded then.

I'm listening now...
BTW, my view on the ronin situation is this: A samurai is born into a clan for the sake of the clan and is assumed to be loyal to said clan in their younger years. At the time of their gempukku(coming of age ceremony), they shed their younger life and begin one anew(hence the choosing of your adult name at this time signifying a new start), and it is at that point that they pledge themselves TO THE CLAN. During their adult lives they can be assigned and reassigned multiple times to different postings to serve under different lords, but during this time they are doing so at the behest of the CLAN. IIRC, in my previous readings of Emerald Empire it explicitly states that to honor your lord above your clan is the cause of many ronin in the history of Rokugan. I.E. When your lord is dishonored and made ronin you CHOOSE to follow him, not forced to in most cases. You instead go back to the person who assigned you to him and ask for a new assignment in the interests of the CLAN. Now, one of the BIGGEST conflicts within a samurai in this setting is which entity you lay your loyalty to in the highest degree? Your lord, your clan, or the Emperor? Each clan has a different view on this triumvirate, and different reasons in their ranking as well. This is what makes the setting so diverse and intricate. There is always a question, nothing is ever clear, everything has a consequence.
Now, be that as it may... Stu can do whatever the hell he pleases because its his game. I'm just regurgitating the information I have gleaned over the last fifteen years in the setting. Use it however you see fit.

I finished the AP. I learned something today. I do not miss the combat. It's not nearly as fun as having Rokai flirt with a girl, or Ikume consistently wrangle the uncouth barbarians. In my own terrible game I'm running I set up a stupid scene and planned for a potential combat, but failed skill rolls and odd player choices turned what could have been just another fight into Abbot & Costello meet Dracula. It was much better than I could have planned. So here's a toast to seven more episodes without combat! All this talk of the dishonor of torture, was anyone else shocked the ninja didn't kill himself? I realize as a GM you need have information and setting up those kind of choices is good, but I was sure any second the ninja was going to just be dead from equivalent of a cyanide pill.

Especially if a battlemat/mini's become involved. Now the players are not only looking at each other engaging in non-verbal communication (i.e. pizza farts) but they are also now looking at something critical to the game that you the listener can't see. However, for this ship of fools/boatload of idiots it would seem that emphasizing narrative combat is more of the goal. At least that's how I like my RPGs. I think Stu did a great job of making the combat narrative/fast/and engaging. It is a samurai game after all...the characters are built around the notion that at some point/someday they are going to katana the fuck outta somebody. The threat of violence and death brings a level of drama, tension and conflict (DYSWIDT?) that makes the players get more sweaty and engaged, that in turn makes the AP more interesting...so yeah a fight or two every six sessions would be nice. Especially when Nicoma gets to cut the head off the leader of the Violet Nightfall for killing his bar manager.

I wasn't trying to say the fight scene was boring or uninformed, maybe it's old age setting in, but I notice that combat is by far my least favorite part of even in own games. I think I should try to play in more modern setting games where murdering people is frowned upon, but that is a subject for another thread...
