Thought this was interesting. 15 Worst and best beers if you are trying to lose weight, but still enjoy yourself. Most of the 15 best are swill in my opinion, but there are a few in there i would go after. Top 15 Best and Worst beers

The Guinness is the only one I've tried of the "better for you" beers. I tend to stay away from Coors, Miller, Bud, and such. Just out of curiosity, which are the ones you like?

Overall I much prefer the "bad" segment of beers though I am disappointed Clown Shoes Vampire Slayer did not make the list...

I like most of the "bad list" beers, though I can't stomach Urquell, and fuck that too-sweet Berry Weiss shit. Bass is my hands-down favorite import and several others have graced my fridge, but I'll usually only drink one or two of those at a sitting.
As for the "good list" beers, I like Bud Select or Miller Lite if I'm gonna be drinking for the long haul. Those 64-calorie beers are fuckin' hideous though - they taste exactly as I imagine watered-down swill would.

I have 2 of the bad list in the fridge right now, a #9 and a Sam. As for the good list Guinness is the only one I would drink. Oh man wasn't just a year or so that I was asking for beer tips? Dark side can forget cookies...

I can't believe they even used 'beer' and 'lose weight' in the same sentence.
The correct beverage if you are (actually) trying to lose weight is vodka lime and soda.
Cut out lime and/or soda according to your taste.

I'm going to use my thread necro powers for good, and resurrect this thread!
I love beer. It's always exciting to find new beers; trips back to the USA are like visiting Disneyland now, there are so many craft beers with such a range of styles and flavors. Living in Japan, for the most part it is difficult to find anything other than a macro-brew. Even when there are craft beers, they're pricey: Racer 5 IPA was ¥750 a 12 oz. bottle (pre-tax), so almost what a six-pack of it goes for in California.
My go-to beer here is Coedo Kyara, an IPL with a big, floral flavor. Really hoppy. I've seen it at Whole Foods in the USA a few times, if anyone's curious.
My favorite beer in the USA would be Lagunitas' Little Sumpin' Wild or Sumpin' Extra, their seasonal Double IPA with wild yeast. Amazeballs.
Brash Item 9 is also stunningly good.
How about you all? Any favorites?

For beer, I solely drink Lindemans Kriek black cherry lambic.

I've had a different Kriek/Lambic and wasn't stoked, but if I can find that in Japan, I'll give her a go. In general I don't enjoy fruit beers or sours, but am always up for trying new things. I'm pretty snooty about IPAs, but was stunned how good the relatively inexpensive Sam Adams' Rebel Grapefruit IPA was. Stu Venable should give that a shot if he hasn't already.

Funny, I was thinking about making a beer-related post myself. A good friend just introduced me to something weird: Peanut Butter Beer. I had to drink a couple before I could decide whether or not I actually liked it. I can't drink more than one or two at a sitting, but after a six-pack I decided it was worth buying again.

Since my wife is gluten free we both drink Duvel when wanting to drink beer. It's low enough in gluten that it's technically gluten free (aka "Not enough to cause a reaction") and Duvel has a good balance of heavy and flavorful. My other go-to is Gulden Drakk, but that can knock you on your ass if you aren't careful.
On a side note, if you are a homebrewer then the recipes for Coors, Miller, and Bud are actually very good recipes. The factory process for the canned stuff removes all the things that make that recipe good: the aging yeast. Those companies know they're making sub-par beer in the cans because the business is there but it doesn't actually qualify as "beer". Make your own from home and taste the difference, yo.

Duvel's pretty commonly available in Japan; if they've got foreign beer, they've got Duvel; I like it alright, but blonde ales are pretty unexciting for me. That's the nice thing about beer: there are so many styles. Peanut butter wheat beer? Sounds novel! uselesstriviaman - Do you do your own homebrewing, or are you sampling the fruits of others' labors?

chronovore - Oh hell no, I have far too many hobbies stretching my free time thin already. Brewing might be fun, but I'm just fine appreciating and tasting the fruits of others' hard brewing labor. And I don't think my wife would appreciate me stinkin' up the place with brewmeisterin' fermentation smells.

The craft beer movement in Japan is going pretty strong in Tokyo, but here in Osaka it is slow to grow (said the actress to the vicar). One of the earliest craft brewers, Brian Baird, doesn't have much presence in Osaka, but I recently found a bar nearby which has a couple of his brews on tap at any given time. I had the joy of trying his Baird Temple Garden Yuzu Pale Ale the other night, and it was fabulous. untappd.com/user/chronovore/checkin/423489061/Feel free to add me on Untappd!
