As I said, its not dishonorable if performed by a non-samurai. In this case it was performed by a samurai... and encouraged by another. Agreed, I think it's less about the actual torture and more about letting/encouraging Ueda to sully himself in such a fashion.

Your columns don't line up...at all. And you call yourself a nerd sir?! *loose 5 honor* Yeah...I tried to get them to line up...*takes out wakisashi*...but sometimes this format isn't the best...*pours saki over it*...if someone knows where the table can be found on the interwebs...*opens kimono*... As far as torture goes my Hida bushi has Interrogation with the hopes of heading in the direction of being a witch hunter. Do they have low folks do their dirty work for them ? As far as portraying torture in game (something I always tend to get queasy about). +1 Honor again to Stu for hinting that it wasn't pretty, it didn't feel good, but the answers were obtained and the really bad shit happened off camera. I never really enjoyed playing that particular aspect of Reservoir Dogs the RPG. Whats the final consensus on who the group's real lord is ? Is it by default Renjiro until they get taken in by a higher lord. I'm a bit confused by their status...

I checked the rulebook and technically they are Ronin until they are accepted by another lord (Or Renjiro again) Normally they would likely go to Junicheerio for reassignment, but given his possible duplicity that probably isn't a great idea. It's all wonderfully grey.
As for torture, it falls under Intimidate which is classified as a low skill and would therefore clearly cause a loss of honor for the samurai to engage in it. As for Dave's involvement it's a bit greyer. There is an honor loss for manipulating others into a dishonorable act, so the question is, does allowing/encouraging another samurai to commit a dishonorable act fall under that category?
My opinion is yes. Uwata (or whatever) has a checkered past and has been working hard to restore his honor under the Inukai, but as soon as it suited his needs Dave allowed/encouraged Uwata to travel back down that dishonorable path.
I think it was within keeping with Dave's character that it happened, but none the less it was a dishonorable act.

Is it by default Renjiro until they get taken in by a higher lord. I'm a bit confused by their status... Honor is a fun and tricky thing in the game as far as I'm concerned. A kuni witch hunter? Those guys be crazy and if they suspected someone they'd likely interrogate/torture, do whatever to find out. Heck, the first thing they usually do when meeting someone is cast jade strike if they have the ability, which is a huge insult to non tainted people. Many samurai often shirk honor for the greater good, the Scorpion clan, and Crab clan being huge examples of it. Mantis, generally shirk honor for greater glory. Crane are hoity tooth, but even they have sects that do the dirty work so the rest of their clan can remain honorable. And what it comes down to in many ways, for me, doing the right thing, is not often not the honorable thing. On a side note, for Stu and the gang, I couldn't help but hear the wound counting, and I've got a custom word doc character sheet that you mind find much easier to use than the ones that actually are from the book, if any one is interested in checking them out give me a message.

Just 'cuz I love a giant table! GAINS/LOSSES BY HONOR RANK Honor Enduring an insult to your ancestors 0 -2 -4 -4 -6 -8 Enduring an insult to yourself 2 2 2 0 0 2 Enduring an insult to your family or clan 0 0 -2 -2 -4 -4 So an insult to your person is honorable? But "yo mama" jokes are not taken lightly in Rokugan? That's funny.

Yup...at least that's how it was when my group dealt with them. Accusing some one of being tainted was a huge insult for us, especially if they weren't tainted. And jade strike, as the description says only affects people with one rank of taint, and has an amusing anecdote about extremist kuni witch hunters doing it to people upon first meeting them as a precaution. They was crazy in our world.

Looking at the chart, I would say Nakoma was involved in either a minor breach of etiquette or politely ignoring another's dishonorable behavior, ala allowing Ueda to torture that prisoner instead of having an Eta torturer brought in to do it. In either case, at his honor rank of 7, I believe that puts the loss at -2 points.
