Hey Guys,
Has anyone run fighter combat in GURPs, any hints or tips.
The next session for my Stargate Game sees the PC's traveling to a Planet they believe is the Wraith base of operations in the Milky Way Galaxy. They are going their by ship instead of through the Gate so they have some support.
Since one of the PC's is a Pilot and has the skills to fly an F:302 and has made sure to let me know he will fly one at every opportunity I really want to give him the chance to Dog Fight v's some Wraith Darts.
How important will it be to stat out both Fighters fully?
Cheers Brad

(I'm assuming you're using GURPS Spaceships here.) You'll want to stat stuff out, but fighters are pretty easy to do. For fun, I'd give the player a budget and tell him to design his own ship, since this is all supposed to be part of his fun. Then, approximate Wraith Darts with the rules and have at it. I've never run them myself, since I don't think that any of my groups would have wanted to do that in a game, so I can't tell you how to run it. I would also mention that you need to be careful to make sure that the other players aren't bored when you run the dogfight.

I ran it once in 3rd Edition using Space. Combat is in chapter 9 and the creation of ships is in 8. I made ships one weekend and it was pretty fun. However after an hour of combat three of the ships were destroyed and I felt an immense loss. I had spent a bunch of time making ships and creating cool things about them. Think of it as losing your character after the first combat. Not fun. At least at the time it wasn't fun.
I would describe the ships and narrate their placement. If you follow the combat sequence in chapter 9 you should be able to provide a realistic narrative. There is some dice rolling so it's not all talk.
One of the things you have going for you is that you are using the Stargate universe. I assume your players know about the F-203 and Wraith Darts. Just play out the character aspect of the combat. That should be easier to manage.

for dogfights I have in the past modified the distances in the action2 chase rules and those did awesome for fast paced dogfighting.
