I was thinking about revisiting my blog post from a while back. It was about the Pacifism Disadvantage in GURPS. I described the disadvantage and explained why I have taken it over the years. I have always felt that Pacifism is underused and underplayed.
Have you played a Pacifist, in any form, character? How did you deal with the situations that would normally require a fight? As a whole how was your experience? Would you play a pacifist again? GM's how do you handle pacifist players?
I really just wanted to get an idea of how often pacifism is used and played in your games.

I have not played a pacifist but I did play a vampire in the Giovanni chronicles that went through without killing/seriously harming a single mortal (in over 700 years or so) out of principle and only staking a few vampires. The only creature he killed was a Baali seeing as the character was a humanist, devout monk before he was Embraced. It was very challenging and although I did get involved in combat I always had to go to great lengths to avoid killing/harming anyone. It was also very rewarding. Not an experience I would easily repeat (the campaign lasted like 9 months of real life gaming every week) as from time to time you really want to shed some blood and cause some mayhem when the others get to do it . A small break with DnD so we could slaughter some orcs mindlessly did help take the edge off

"Pacifist" isn't quite right for what they're doing, but in the Savage Shadowrun game I'm running, the group consensus was to play shadowrunners who kill as little as possible, and who use nonlethal options first. For example, instead of slitting someone's throat, they'll slap a tranquilizer patch on the back of his neck. One player went so far as to introduce an arms dealer specializing in non-lethal "solutions" as a background contact.
Me, I'm letting them run with it. I'm a very loose, yes-and GM, and I think it's awesome that they're not taking the easy way out. I've gone so far as to let their careful methods work to their advantage in the long-term. After all, their way is much quieter. Plus this sort of planning speaks to their professionalism, and that's earned them a good reputation on the streets. Likewise, Lonestar's a lot less likely to launch a manhunt for criminals who don't go around killing people indiscriminately! So the short-term investment they're making IS paying off. They're willing to shoot drones, cameras, lights, etc., and I don't think they'd have any qualms about killing a dangerous paracritter, but they're very respectful of metahumanity—so far.
I think those long-term benefits are the key to making pacifist players less frustrated and less frustrating. NPCs should respect player characters who don't take the easy way out of every problem, and a commitment to a creed or belief should be an asset in some circles.

An arms dealers specializing in non-lethal weapons? Does he sell blamethrowers? Tornadoes in a can?

I play a healer in a boffer LARP that carries no weapons (in part because I suck at boffer combat).
Playing this can be hard because there's a lot of combat at LARPs like this but it gets mitigated by the fact that everyone protects the healer...
