I've been running D&D 3.5 for some friends of mine recently. I started out with the first adventure of a trilogy, and the players liked it so much that they wanted me to go on to the other two adventures. Just one small problem: the adventures were all originally written for D&D 3.0, and only the first one has an official conversion to D&D 3.5. Can anyone point me to a guide on how to convert D&D 3.0 monsters to 3.5 monsters? Or at least give me some tips on what to look for? Any help would be appreciated!

Unless the monsters have character levels you should be able to simply use them as written. There's not THAT big a difference between 3.0 and 3.5 editions.

I've been comparing the monsters that are in the monster manual to the 3.5 versions. The main difference I've noticed is that it seems the saving throw DCs for various effects are higher in 3.0 than in 3.5. Also it seems that skill modifiers are generally higher in 3.0. I'm worried that I'm not giving the players a fair shake by making this so tough. Is there a quick and dirty fix, like just subtracting 5 from everything?

I'd go all the way to pathfinder if you're making the shift...

Changing systems is not an option in this situation, so Pathfinder is not on the table. No pun intended. ;-)

I've found that the easiest thing to do (which isn't always possible) is simply to use the same monster from the 3.5 monster manual rather than the 3.0. Where not available, I found Message No. 2 link generally helpful. I find damage reduction to be a particular issue -- 3.0 would state is as something like DR 20/+2, meaning that the DR could be overcome by a +2 magical weapon. 3.5 dropped that; mostly reducing the number by 5 or so and picking an appropriate way to overcome (cold iron for fey, for instance) was my quick-and-dirty conversion.

the easy way to do it, would be to use the 3.5 monsters, to Convert the DR types to an appropriate cheap material. or if you are worried about pathfinder being a new system. Pathfinder is about as different from 3.5 as 3.5 is from 3.0. literally a retroclone with a few houserules applied.
