We talked about this in Episode 07-07.
To reiterate: I have a concept for a game that I think is pretty cool. It'll be a pulp game set probably in the 1920s. I'll run it in GURPS.
The premise of the story, however, can't be completed in one 4-hour session. It would take at minimum 6 hours -- and possibly two 4-hour sessions.
Question: would you sign up for such a game?
If I don't run it at a con, I'll probably run it as a mini campaign -- but probably on Google+, as I've told all the people I'd normally play with about it.

I haven't played in a convention for a long time, but I think I would. A few years ago I was GMing an homebrewed system in a con in Paris, I signed up for 3 sessions : afternoon, night and morning. First session went so well that 3 out of 5 players wanted to stay for the second session.
Obviously I had to improv another game for the second session (I used a previous game I had written for my usual group, and changed it to make it a sequel to the afternoon game).
In total it was a 12 hours session, and it was awesome.

I would sign up for it, but I can't make it to the next con, but my goal is to make it out for Labor Day!

FWIW, I'll probably run it at the September con.
Gamex (which runs on Memorial Day weekend) is also tear down weekend at Faire and my daughter's 7th birthday, so I still haven't decided what I'm doing at the con yet.

Well in that case I am game! ( Memorial day is also my sons bday weekend, and he demands a long standing bonfire to celebrate! )

I suspect, Stu, that the answer is that most HJ folks would be happy to play your game for eight hours. So you'll probably have no problem getting enough players.

Can you drink at the game during the con?

We (inspired by CADave) have a cooler of beer on wheels that we took to every game at OrcCon 2012.

That's an awesome autocorrect: CADave = Cadaver
I think someone's got a new nickname.

We'll have an occasional drink at the games, but personally, if I ever have a player who is obviously drunk, they'll be asked to leave the table. Moderation! Keeping things fun for everyone since.....I don't know, sometime.

Yeah, it has never been an issue, but it's technically against the con and hotel policy. I imagine it would just take one instance of someone making an ass out of themselves for the con staff to start enforcing it.

Another concern would be if there were kids present at the game. JiB
