Hi,
I'm a gamer looking for a group in the Tampa area, the closer to Valrico the better. I'm in my late 30s, have played RPGs since my early teens, have family & kids, but am still looking for a regular campaign once a week for a few hours or so. I prefer science fiction like traveller and abhor superheroes and vampires. I like to play jack-of-all-trades characters or skill monkeys, if available (e.g. bard, rogue), because I don't want the game stats and mechanics to prevent me from carrying out my ideas. That's also why I like classless systems better, but I switch it up every couple of characters. I'm a a bit of an optimizer/power gamer, but I optimize my character towards roleplay and utility skills (perception, diplomacy, profession, lore, etc, at least in fantasy; I do like a fair amount of rifle skill in SciFi), but when in combat I do optimize the character's action for maximum effect.
I'm not a big fan of group conflict, and prefer when there is a concept for the whole group, how they know each other and why they stick together. I prefer personal, rather than epic stories; more about how this group of iconoclasts did some interesting and odds-defying stuff, rather than than how the unknown last descendant of the ancient dynasty reluctantly takes up the quest to save the world from total annihilation, because nobody else could be bothered. I enjoy when the people in the story take part in a little epicness, but to have the destiny of the entire world revolve constantly around the characters is a bit too cliché. Similarly, I prefer the more realistic/gritty type of game to the overly heroic/pulpy.
Have played:
Dark Eye
Traveller
Shadowrun
D&D 2nd Ed
RuneQuest

Wheel of Time
