Nobody in my local area seems to even know about SW. (Northern-Central Maryland) The (un)FLGS doesn't stock it. But after listening to the podcast I'm interested to try. Does anyone know of a game open to newbs on G+ or skype or any other medium online?
I'm fairly setting agnostic, but would like to try Weird War II or something in the Gaslight or Rippers settings.

I play a lot of Savage Worlds but I rarely get a chance to enjoy Weird War. I'd love a chance to run or play something, but I'm heading out on a 2+ week vacation next Thursday. But I don't do much prep for games so I could throw together a one shot as soon as this weekend, probably Saturday or Sunday night American time. Or Sunday morning. Time differences would be tricky to manage.
Any interest among forum goers? Or any interest for something in mid-April?

Thanks for the response.
Funny enough, the next two weekends for me are not good either, I'll be travelling.
I'd love to get something going in mid-April. I also found one guy over on Pinnacle's forum who might be interested as well. I think Weird Wars sounds like a great setting.

I've got some experience with Weird War. I first used it to run a one shot GI Joe vs. Transformers game that was really fun. Later I did a longer Leningrad + zombies adventure. I'm a huge WWII nerd so most theaters of the war are open for play. I've had ideas for isolated recon teams or anti-tank gun crews cut off from the line during enemy assaults. I'd like to use vehicles but I'm not sure how to keep every player in a tank engaged with the action.
I'm a teacher and April and May are summer break here, so my schedule is pretty open except for Friday and Saturday nights, Amerikano time. That's for my regular gaming group sessions.

WWII is something I've always been fascinated by. My dad was a career soldier in the US Army and a military historian. I've even been to a lot of the places in the ET since I grew up over there.
Regarding timing, I'm in UTC-5 (Eastern), and it looks like you're in UTC+8 if I'm reading my time zone map properly. I wouldn't be adverse to a morning game on the weekend, I do have a loosely "9-5" Monday through Friday so I'm unavailable between 8am and 7pm weekdays because of commuting and family/dogs/whatnot. With enough notice I can be available just about any time.
What tech would you be using to run it? Skype, G+ Hangout, MapTool or something else?
Even though we're talking about weeks away, I'm getting excited to learn and try out SW.

Different digital tools are better for different kinds of games. If we're doing tactical stuff with a battlemap I'd rather use Maptool, but who knows if that's best yet.
There are so many possibilities for Weird War adventures that we have to narrow it down. Playing as Americans is the easiest roleplay experience but playing as Soviets creates a great atmosphere for weirdness and horror. Then we have to decide if the party should be regular soldiers who encounter the supernatural or if we want to build a special team of occult hunters (using the Office of Special Investigations from the book). Between the two, in skill and preparedness, would be like Army Rangers.
SO MANY OPTIONS. Any opinions? I've got more grim Soviet adventure seeds than American ones but I've got an armored reconnaissance idea for the Americans. That could turn into a comic book-y haunted tank scenario.
Any other forumites want to give Weird War a try in April?

I'm good with really any European theater scenario. I'm more familiar with ranks and equipment on the American/British side, but playing as soviets could be cool. I'd rather go in as regular troops (including special forces like the Green Berets or Rangers) out of their depth than a specially occult trained unit. It loses some of the discovery and mystery if we go with the latter.
As GM, I'd say whatever works best for your story, I'll have fun with.
I believe I can maptool as a client, but I know I can't host without a lot of router tweaking, forwarding ports and all that jazz.

There's a free VPN client my group uses called Hamachi that gets around most firewall issues with Maptool. It's saved our D&D campaign.
I've got the concept for an adventure now, something around a monastery, probably in Italy but maybe France. I haven't decided on tone for the weirdness. It could be psychological horror or pulpy supernatural. Three weeks of vacation should be enough to figure this out. I've got an old Skype crew so I'll look for some players there.
You said no stores around you carry Savage Worlds. Can you do some pdf shopping? The Weird War book isn't entirely necessary for character creation but it's a great resource and inspiration for characters.

I would definitely recommend it and it would save a lot of time in character creation because I won't have to guide players through every step or copy-paste the specific edges and stats that are important.
Let's aim for the weekend of April 14-15.

ok, I snagged the PDF, and have a copy of Deluxe like I said. I'm assuming a US Army infantry unit. If I'm wrong let me know.
I was thinking of playing an infantry Medic. If that doesn't work let me know and I'll re-think the concept.

The party will be a platoon of Rangers or paratroopers in Italy, 1943. Have to double check the timeline but at some point in 1943 two of the 3 Ranger battalions were lost and the remaining one was reassigned to a parachute infantry regiment. Either way they'll be trained as Rangers and start the session at seasoned rank, so you make a character and give it 5 advances.
You could be a medic, but there's going to be a lot of combat and a medic won't play a very active role in several of the scenes. In this adventure it's a better role for an NPC ally. The option's open for players to be a lieutenant or sergeant, though. Not everyone has to be a grunt.

Alright. I like the idea of Rangers. I'll come up with something and post back.
Of course I completely forgot to ask if you were doing pre-gens.

Creating pregens sounds like work. This isn't such a tightly crafted adventure that I need to have everyone's skills and abilities locked in. I can just guide people through character creation to keep them on a good path for Rangers.
And yeah Chief, we can teach Savage Worlds. That's the whole genesis of the thing. Do you know anything about World War 2?
