Sometimes, you talk about your actual plays (occasionally with SPOILERS before the AP actually hits the feed), but what about actually discussing them "behind the scenes" as a topic on occasion, for example, after you complete a story arc.
I would also be interested in knowing how different participants feel about the AP experience. How is it different from a normal game? Does it make you focus? Are you trying to entertain the audience? Does it make you self-censor or turn you into more of a db? Does recording add tension to the session and how is that good and/or bad?
Personally, I enjoy the HJRPG APs for many reasons, including the following: 1. Approach to roleplaying as espoused in podcast. 2. You funny sometimes. 3. Surprising/entertaining character choices and in-character performance and action. 4. Compared to single-authored stories as presented in audiobooks, for example, there really is an incredible unpredictability. ("TWO DAYS!") 5. Better than bedtime stories for falling asleep.

I've been in a group of people that had the GM want to be one of those famous Internet GMs. Happy Jacks often has a different tone than that sort of group, since their goal is good games for themselves first, followed by their viewers. Many APs are the opposite, where the game is for the viewers and the players are more akin to actors. The GM is the director in this proverbial tale. To him you are replaceable talent. Watch out for these guys and stay away, they are bad news.
Recordings are not your best friend as a GM. It is more like a double edged sword without a handle, be careful how you grab it. While it can be a useful tool, because it will end up online the players will have equal access to it. This means you, or anyone else, is unlikely to get away with anything. If you ever want to arguments to turn into a list of video pause points, record away. Every mistake you make will be immortalized and someone is likely to call you on it. So if you are in it to be some kind of high authority, be prepared to look like a politician being caught saying awful shit, over and over again.
Combine a guy trying to win respect but who is doomed to come out looking closer to a retarded monkey and you have a combo for games exploding and groups breaking up. I've learned to suspect anyone who wants their games recorded because of this. I've even warned other people, who often don't listen, but come back to me later to tell me how their GM turned into a monster as soon as the audio was rolling. This doesn't seem to be the case with happy jacks for the reasons I posted above, which means that maybe the winning combo for recording is to find people who wouldn't have chose to do so on their own.

100% agree that an AP should be play first, with the recording being incidental to the game.
IMO an actual play isn't really an actual play if you aren't recording..... actual play.

I can tell you that for me, it was no different from any other game in which I played. Until Kimi or someone said something like, "...and Tim, why don't you tell the listeners at home what that is?" I didn't even think about the recording bit at all. I just... played.

Yikes @stevensw so many of your posts sound like you play with very adversarial GMs sorry to hear that. I quit playing with my brother in law because I realized his board gamer competitiveness would never go away and every game was a contest of wills. My APs are mostly laughing and people talking in funny voices having fun.

I like getting feedback on games. I get rules corrections and clarifications, reminders to follow my own advice, etc. Listeners will send me their suggestions or theories on what's happening in the story line. I love it.
I have thought about doing a radio drama (I think I've mentioned this before on the show). It's something I've never tackled, and I'd like to see if I can do it.
But (in my personal opinion) there is a BIG difference between an actual play and a radio drama, and it would take a lot of work to convert one to the other.

The evil scientist guy is a horrible actor, I prefer the best friend scientist guy that's got like 20 lines total.

Does it affect your prep and the way you run the game other than worrying about the recording as you GM? I would imagine that it would be like going on stage for me. I would not feel relaxed, but that might make it more fun.

It doesn't impact my actual scenario / world building prep. I did find that the ease with which I can find images on the Internet had eroded some of my descriptive powers, though, and I have made a conscious effort to describe things the characters see in more detail for the listeners. I will also strive to post even more of the visual aids on the forums in the Star Wars Traveller section.
