I do agree that a group template may have helped here. I also wonder if this is one of those situations where knowing a bit more about the setting would have helped the players. stork - were you aware when building Albert just how out of place he would be in the setting? The game really seems like it is geared towards politics and trying to build a power base to the extent that a loner just wanting to get by is never going to fit in. I wonder if that's why Stu brought in Carmandie early on, to provide motivation for Albert to engage with the masquerade in a way he otherwise wouldn't see the need to.

This game seems like a lot of power base building, but not all Vampire games are that focused on the politics. Chicago by Night was good module that showcased that as, yes, there was a web of politics happening but there was also plenty of reasons to pop claws and shred some Sabbat vamps. It was also a cross over module where a Vampire group, a Werewolf group, and a Mage group could all interact with the same world and tell the exact same story.
But in the limited games I've been a part of the theme has always landed near "There's something strange in the neighborhood, who's gonna kill it?"

Hooboy so many questions, lemee see if I can cover a few. ******************************************HERE THERE BE SPOILERS******************************************* To the point of the setting, Stu admitted that what he had planned and what he ended up with changed after char gen because Sam and Kimmy made very wealthy, prominent characters, he had to tailor the game to their strengths. Added to that their power set and you dont have a fighty game. Skully can mesh well because Nosferatu are at their core make great spys. They gather information, and are about stealth and manipulation. Then, Skully stole a book from an NPC that was mentioned in the paper that was literally added in to fill out the page. Suddenly he had a Mage in the game, another thing not solved by direct confrontation. What Stu was able to use Albert for was to mine his back story for confrontation. I think its fair to say that almost everything I put in my back story and flaws ended up in that game. Albert was the whipping boy that all the drama spun out of. To weaselcreature point I tried to play him as the blunt tool that saw through the crap and got to the point. I KNOW I affected some the other players plans. But I always felt I was stretching the believably of a Gangrel in doing so. I reasoned that it wasn't that he didn't know about Vampire politics, he figured it out after his sire abandoned him. It is more that he never had a taste for politics and intrigue. He chose not to play the game, even though he knew a few of the rules. Too HourEleven points about that drop in Humanity. OK..... so here is how Albert sees everything that happened After finally gaining "shape of the beast" He decides he can finally be of use in finding our enemies. He transforms into into bat form with the added perception bonus, and sets out trying to find the Assamite, he knew was in the area......and fails. Meanwhile Skullys rat finds it instead in minutes. So it's on, now is his chance to exact revenge, he fly's up to the roof, notices the Assamite with a rocket launcher aimed at his coutrie, and decides to take him down off the roof, at great risk to his own health mind you, a fairly noble act. He does so, but again fails. He does little to no damage, the Assamite, on the other hand, attacks him upon impact and in one blow takes him to crippled. Well, his job is done, he brought the Assamite to ground leveling the playing field, best head towards his friends who will help him take this guy out. Instead, they hit him with a car. As a last ditch effort he uses "Earth Meld" to escape to the warm embrace of mother earth, there too slowly gather strength and heal safe an undetected. But no luck, after killing everything, they dig poor Albert up. Take him, and and force victims down his throat. Culminating in "some bum we find" and leave Albert alone with a helpless diseased kine. No one even bothered to stick around in case he killed the poor sob, or they didn't care if he did. So what, it's just a bum. They didn't even bother to get him some healthy prey, and supervise his recovery. So of course his humanity drops. He has been betrayed and lied too once again. I played out the drop in humanity not as a keen for the lost soul I took, but as a hardening of my own resolve to not trust anyone ever again. Hes done.... Fuck em. Let them deal with the Paladin Kristov (or what ever he is) themselves. By leaving, he diverts the attention Kristov had on him back to the others. Let them sort it out. They hit him with a car after he single highhandedly disrupted the others plans. It's pretty obvious hes not wanted. To Probie Tim point. I really dont want to make another character. I really liked Albert, and I had just gotten him to a point where he would be effective, and was going to be fun to play. But in game events culminated in the decision to leave being the one that character would make. I could have stuck around and ignored the events and my characters attributes and flaws. The drop in humanity didn't say you have to quit playing, but it didn't ring true to me that a loner Gangrel would stick around after all that. Im actually having a tough time trying to come up with another character to play that Im interested in. I can make one that fits the game better, but I need to find something that is interesting to play. This got long...I apologize. And I need to put a spoiler warning at the top to be safe.

SPOILER CHAT
I do kinda hate how badly it all wrapped up for Albert but the logic presented here definitely makes sense. I'll miss the dynamic between Albert and Skully, but it's all in service of the story. If ya'll ever do another Vamp game after this, maybe he can have an NPC role there or somesuch. Just as a nod to those of us who listened.
Lookin' forward to whatever role you take on next for this game.

I really dont want to make another character. I really liked Albert, and I had just gotten him to a point where he would be effective, and was going to be fun to play. Oh, dude, my apologies... I thought you did want a new character. If you don't, then by all means, don't make one. Bring Albert back. I'm pretty sure we told you we'd figure out a way to make it work, and we will! I think I'm OK in speaking for Sam and Kimi by saying that we'd MUCH rather have you in the game than out, or than in the game with a character you don't like. But in game events culminated in the decision to leave being the one that character would make. I could have stuck around and ignored the events and my characters attributes and flaws. The drop in humanity didn't say you have to quit playing, but it didn't ring true to me that a loner Gangrel would stick around after all that. I've never been a big fan of the "but that's what my character would do" approach. As role-players we have the benefit of being able to look at our characters and the game from a 1000 foot view; I tend to spin "but that's what my character would do" 180 degrees and turn it into "how can my character justify doing this thing which isn't normally what he would do, given all of his attributes and flaws". Characters grow, flaws can be bought off. Maybe Albert starts to realize that there's value in having people on his side? Maybe after so many years of being a loner, he's getting tired of it. I dunno, I'm just throwing out ideas, but my point is that if you want to make it work, we can figure out a way to make it work that isn't all cheesy and derpy.

I think the left one looks too much like Saitama from One Punch Man honestly.
