The Chase Rules are a subject of frustration to a lot of GMs, new and old versions alike. How do you run your chases so they are Fast Furious Fun? jazzisblues I know you had a method that you mentioned on the GM Hangout but the audio kept going in and out. Care to chime in with your version?

I haven't tried it yet, but I think using some hack of the rules from Star Wars X-Wings would be good. I didn't think I'd like that game because I'm not into war gamey measuring stick combats, but it's super fast and fluid. Just gotta hack it to work with whatever dice you are using and system mechanics.

I actually really liked the old chase mechanics. they worked really well! And I really really liked Wiggies special tables of complications in the daring tales series of adventures! That being said, I had issues when I first tried to use the current chase rules due to the abstract nature. However after playing around with them a few times and coming to the realization.....the current chase rules work by noting the "high" points of the chase, not the overall chase. Basically each "round" isn't a set time, but more like when you watch a movie, you see a bunch of running/driving and then maybe they throw a trash can down in front of someone...that is the round that happens in the chase. Once I dialed that in and filled in the gaps with Narration, the current chase rules are actually pretty awesome....But I have also found that when you are doing cool car chases, sometimes what you really want isn't really a chase, but a vehicular combat....

Care to chime in with your version? Short version: 1) decide on a distance between the chaser and the chasee 2) decide a number of rounds of the chase 3) roll opposing drive/ride/pilot checks, winner adjusts the distance by 1 / success over their opponent's roll. If the chsee gets (n) distance away they escape, if the chaser gets within (n) distance they can attack. If the chaser gets to 0 distance they can perform a maneuver to stop the chasee. It's a little more than that but not by much. JiB

JiB Outside of determining how many rounds the chase can last, this seems very similar to the original chase rules, just having variables for the distance to get away from the chase. (Which I like, as I said before I really liked the original chase rules )
