come on, share the hindrances that you don't think certain Genres and why you don't think they fit the Genre,
Young and Elderly for Medieval or Post Apocalyptic Settings. life is short, conditions are harsh, medical care is lacking, hobbies are scarce and frowned upon. because of this, Elderly characters die long before they are old enough to take the hindrance, and children have nothing to do but pick up useful skills early, because if they don't become a contributing member of society by the time they are twelve, they will starve to death from a lack of ability to do work. so useless fluff skills get removed, and children learn what is practical for their career and what works for surviving the setting. hobbies are seen as a wasteful luxury for the wealthy, children are taught the languages and skill they know will help them survive and prosper. there is also some overlap in specific skillsets.
Young in a College Setting. unless you are a particular student's underage sibling. you probably are too young to stay at the dorms and it is very unlikely a college student is young enough to have the hindrance or has circumstances that would allow their underage sibling to bunk in the dorm with them. characters like Doogie Houser are extreme Mary Sues, Especially Japanese Samurai Female Doogie Housers. these are generally not a good fit for most campus settings. sure, a 12 year old 8th grader might be feasible in a high school setting, but there is no way a 12 year old samurai girl with a katana is attending a college in Texas. the character might have been pitched as Dougie Houser, but after analyzing the story, the guy just wanted a Pint Sized Samurai Schoolgirl in a college setting.
Elderly in a Setting with child protagonists, if you were doing a school like hogwarts or a similar story, where the children are between 11 and 17. the elderly character should not be a part of the protagonist party, Albus Dumbledore may have been providing advice as the headmaster, but he was a non player character with responsibilities. Harry, Hermoine and Ron couldn't have been the Heroes if Albus Dumbledore hogged the spotlight
Alcoholism, Nymphomania, or Drug Addiction in a School Setting. don't do this, even i don't do this. i don't care if your student is a hippie, a gangster or a hippie gangster cheerleader. these 3 major habits are bad choices in most campus settings and are better reserved for adult characters. i might play adult nymphs that are physically built like 12 year old girls, but i don't make them nymphomaniacs. i mean sure, i might flirt with a foe to distract them as a smarts trick or persuasion test of will in combat, but i generally don't go much further than that, at least nothing worse than what you will see in a Teen Rated Console RPG from Japan. if you want to describe your sexual advances towards NPCs in front of the group and it is something worse than a short and brief reference to a pantyshot, please find a group that is okay with it, just because i don't have an issue with it doesn't mean the other players don't.
Autistic when played by a non Autistic player as a bad steriotype. there are all sorts of reasons a character can have bad social skills, just please don't attach it to Aspergers or Bipolar. Bipolar and Autistic characters are a lot worse than a mere charisma penalty to gain 2 free points. as somebody who is both autistic and bipolar, i know how annoying it is when one plays an autistic character like a bad rendition of Chris-Chan. while it is common for Autistics to be highly sensitive to sensations or textures and also common for them to cling heavily towards a specific pattern, we aren't Chris-Chan.
Bloodthirsty in a Heroic Campaign. when you sign up to play a friggin hero, you don't bring a murderous psychopath unless they have a damned good reason to help the heroes for the whole of the campaign. i mean sure, i played a bloodthirsty huntress in a fantasy setting with a heroic paladin, but they were both working to achieve the same goal, and the huntress wanted to do the right thing more than the paladin, despite wanting to do it for the wrong reasons. the paladin kept trying to instigate PVP and get her arrested, when luckily, all the guards saw was a knight in plate physically beating on a small wood elf huntress who seemed to merely want to trade some meat and furs on the surface. in fact, she actually did trade meat and furs, and was only focused on the big game, the big game being the same evil emperor the paladin needed to slay, only she put more effort in working towards his demise, because she wanted the lich emperor's broken phylactery as a hunting trophy. if only the paladin would realize the lich emperor was the worse villain, and that the huntress was more of an antiheroine in it for the glory.
