Double Cross/ Second try

Hello Jackkers,
Currently running a SW POTSM game, we have been in the world some time but due to the completion of a story arch the PCs have decided to create a new crew. The are currently in Port Au Prince helping an ousted captain get his ship back from mutineers who have it careened on another part of the island. More specifically, after killing 8 mutineers in town (who were on leave) they are heading for the careened ship through the jungle.
There is no Meta plot yet, so options can be really wide open, I just want to avoid cultists/ Lovecraftian themes as that was our last story arch.
I am tied to the following:
The ousted Captian said there was a dispute over a found map, the crew wanted to go after the treasure, he did not trust it.
The ousted Captian is an old friend of my PCs Captian, who is a very callous stern but incredible able sailor.
There had to be some split, otherwise the killing 8 of his crew for a trick is super extreme.
There are 3 "friendly" sailors, found in port who are still loyal to the ousted Captian.
I have introduced magic, one PC is a voodoo priestess. The party (overall) is of the investigatory sort with some rabble thrown in.
Looking for a double cross/ the mutineers were of sound mind in ousting him, a map to something that would divide a ship...
Maybe the mutineers are dead already? Natives? Something more sinister?
(Want to avoid a HUGE conspiracy coming off of the cult game where is seemed everyone was involved but it could not be prove)
The scene will play out on the beach, with a careened ship and jungle nearby.
