Hello Jackerites I am currently working on a website for Jackercon, i expect to have a functional alpha ready for Jackercon 12 which should give me insight on how to develop it further for future cons. current stage (done but in no way polished)- log in
- create game (title, description, start time/date (in your timezone), length, max players)
- view game list
- view game
- view own account details
To-Do by JackerCon12
- Join/leave another a game
- create a public profile
- Private messages or IM
- Notifications (game details updated/ )
- social media links (I could create them but dont wanna just take over jackercon)
- additional game info (visible after you have joined a game) - for sharing Roll20 account details or charGen requests.
- game tags for searching games (system, recorded, streamed, nsfw, alignment, teamwork, inter-party conflicts)
I have a few other things planned but these are the things i want done by March.
I am looking for anyone with some design/arty skills they'd be happy to put forward, I am currently using the main layout/style from a previous project so will not be able to use its current state publicly.
Posts about what the minimum functionality you think is required for the first con.
I also want to know what direction people want jackercon to go in?
become more publicly facing? I feel like it should be open to all, this will enable the event to grow. also would enable us to advertise HappyJacks to a wider audience.
try to generate revenue? Hosting a website itself provides costs. We could simply add a paypal donate button and advertise.
enable people to organize games between con dates? For me this removes the uniqueness of Jackercon, and there is no reason people cant do this themselves.
My goal with this is to create an amazing professional website that will help me get better work, while helping out something awesome.

Just a note: the original ethos of Jackercon was that it would evolve into an ongoing rolling event. Having the Jackercon con dates was really just a bait to hook people in the community into gaming with each other (cause we're all kinda really swell ). I'm not sure about making it open - D.T. Pints has the final arbitration on that. It was originally a closed community - specifically Jackers - because we had already tasted the koolaide and, thus, are already reading from the same hymn sheet conduct wise. Noting that Jackercon originally had a strict age limit because, for example, 'there be Australians here' (and they speak in fluent Profanish). Aaron

Aaron For reasons noted in other threads, it will remain 18+. I had spoken a little with D.T. Pints, I was just wanting to get an idea of what other people think. I think it is a good place to build up a community for other games to happen. But i know if it wasnt a set week i would constantly put it off. Open for me isnt really a change apart from some players might not have listened to the podcast. And we could do that social media thing and get more games on. Also should drive some traffic towards the podcast.

I got the domain name, so just lemme know when you want it. I'll need super duper dummy instructions on how to make it point to wherever though, I'm about as technologically literate as a gnat.

I'm about as technologically literate as a gnat. Show off I dream of being that tech savvy. I mean you have a domain name which is more than I've ever managed (sulks) Aaron

Will contact you when the time comes, it depends where we would host and where you bought the domain from as to what we'd need to do. Im currently looking at getting something working (beta) available at the end of the January beginning of Feb, so that people can start listing their games. Ive had some downtime the last week, because in the UK Christmas means booze, food and family. current stage (done but in no way polished)
- create game.
- view game list.
- view game.
- view own account details.
- view peoples profiles.
- Join/leave another a game.
- create a public profile.
To-Do by JackerCon12
- Social media links.
- Edit game/profile.
- Update navigation layout/options.
- Private messages.
- Notifications (game details updated/ people joined your game).
- all the layout.
- add polish.
- Fix the email so it isn't spam.

I would be happy to lend a little graphic and CSS magic. What are you building the site in?

Thanks, though i am using mine atm which is fine. I should be looking to move it into its own environment at some point once its finished, also i'm not sure how hard it would be to transfer.

I'll need super duper dummy instructions on how to make it point to wherever though, I'm about as technologically literate as a gnat. instructionsall the instructions say is to get the auth code with whoever you bought it from. go-daddy instructions - these instructions go more in depth and mention what settings are required before you get the code. most websites like these have a live chat help feature, which is really useful. send me a message on here if you get hold of the transfer authorization code, or need help in doing so.

update: the last (hopefully). Ive got almost everything there.
things todo: - update design on profile, account, comments and their respective edit pages. - content feedback and update. - make emails look pretty. - wait for the hosting company to get back to me about opening email ports*.
* this has delayed me a couple of days, being unable to send email means i cannot verify email address' when you create an account. if anyone were to set up an account using the google log in option, then your email is already verified. otherwise i suppose i could go through and send the emails manually each day, but i might not.
JackerCon.com
Go there now. i will start another forum page to log bugs in a couple of days. but the features are slim. host a game, join a game, comment on games. no editing or deleting yet.

Www.jackercon.com is now live for testing and feedback over jackercon 12. It looks to be a quiet one, but i should get the feedback i need to get close to perfect by the next one. Go create an account and either join or host games!
