Howdy, Folks! I don't usually post about blog posts over here, since I assume anyone who's interested is already keeping an eye on it, but I think today's goody is worth a mention because it should be useful for GURPS newbies. It's a sheet of some of the more common GURPS skills and when they would come up to help figure out what the skills on thecharacter sheet mean, presented in a format like "I want to BLANK someone/something" followed by a list of skills to do that with, i.e., "I want to HEAL someone" lists First-Aid, Diagnosis, Physician, Surgery, and Veterinary for animals. Let me know if I skipped anything obvious (I did have to make just a few cuts to comfortably fit on one side of a page). Hope you find it useful.

God damn it Mook, how are you so fucking rad? Many years ago, what seems a lifetime, I fell asleep while reading the GURPS Basic Set. But this was no ordinary slumber. Unbeknownst to me, the neighbor with whom I was feuding over his obnoxiously loud yiffing parties was an apprentice sorcerer of the local Lodge. After our last encounter, when I had invited a nearby troupe of elderly "free love" nudists to take up residence on his front lawn, he researched a curse to enact his revenge, a curse to trap my essence forever in the pages of whatever book I happened to next read (I suppose I should be thankful I was already done with "The Layman's Guide to the Gastrointestinal Tract"). Trapped in my dreaming, I found myself actually inside the Basic Set. At first, it was terrifying. That little shit gobbo from p. 45 tried to shank me for my sneakers, and the burly gladiator from p. 125 kept telling me I had "a purty mouth." But I eventually stumbled to p. 163 and made a couple of nice new friends. I stayed there for what seemed like months, tending bar and cleaning up the constant torrent of insectoid vomit. On my off-hours, I would make quick, cautious forays to other parts of the book -- improving my combat skills with the Baron from p. 422 in exchange for free booze, boosting my tech knowledge with the very handsy scientist on p. 475 (hint: the table in front of him has no gear on it! Dirty little puppy) -- but mostly hanging out with the wizards on p. 225 to grow in magical lore. In exchange for refereeing their constant tickle fights, they slowly taught me the ways of magick -- the cool kind, spelled with a "K" -- until, after a few years, I was able to cast a spell powerful enough to break the curse and escape the book. Despite being gone so long inside the pages, I discovered that here in the world I'd only been gone 11 minutes. I also discovered that, because of my time trapped within the Basic Set, GURPS was now literally a part of me -- I shit pages in the mornings, and bleed words when I shave too quickly. The neighbor and I even put the past behind us. I transmogrify him and his friends into real animals for their parties, and in exchange I have a neighborhood army eager to do my bidding (like waiting for the cable guy and cleaning that nasty little grill under the fridge). Total win-win. ... I meant... thanks? I haven't slept in a couple days. I... may go do that now.
