Just seen it. Not dreadful. I wouldn't say it's good either. Obviously, it's China not Rokugan, but when you see a bunch of warriors with a Crane motif wearing blue armour, you have to wonder. And then when the dying general passes on the seal of the the Nameless Order, and it's the old Legend of the Five Rings logo, you chuckle to your self.
And the good thing is, it's short. Less than two hours, which is nice, this day and age.

Well Rokugan has a ton of Chinese influence in addition to the Japanese.
Big example, The Carpenter Wall. It would be Crab defending it instead of Crane, but yeah. Very similar there, protecting the wall from invading monsters from the Shadowlands.

How much Matt Damon is there? There is a LOT of Matt Damon, basically he saves China (I wonder if the Chinese get a different cut where he and is Spanish friend are the bumbling comedy duo.) His Irish accent is a bit flaky.

So he's the Dragon Warrior? This one is next on my watch-list, just for the L5R look of it. I had planned to go today, but took the girl to see Lego Batman instead. Which is brilliant, by the way.

My boy went to see Lego Batman without me The L5R look was why I went to see it too. How I miss the days when I'd go and see Zhang Yimou movies 'cos there were actually good. Shanghai Triad still a standout for me (sound design to die for), though Raise the Red Lantern and Not One Less so beautiful too.

Yeah, I do wonder about the need to employ a western actor to be the protagonist hero in an eastern story. I'm concerned about the upcoming Iron Fist in the same vein.

Oh I have no worries about that. Danny Rand was always a blond white guy, after all. For some reason, Powerman and Iron Fist: Heroes for Hire was one of the few American comics I could regularly buy in my home town. It was schlock, but I enjoyed it. The way Luke Cage transcended its source material while honouring it at the seamen time really impressed me. I think that was the best Defenders show so far. Which means I'll forgive Iron Fist quite a bit.

Judging by the quality of Marvel's Netflix shows, I've no doubt it will be good entertainment. I was never overly bothered about Iron Fist before, but I guess it was looking at it through the lens of all the media interest in Finn Jones being cast as Danny Rand, and the Asian-American acting community speaking out about it that drew my interest. I'm looking forward to it, if only just to see how they pull it off.
