Hi. I'm writing an adventure and need the player to find a weird, or rare, brand of photographic camera.
When I say "weird", I mean like how betamax is compared to vhs.
Do anyone have any suggestions? :-)

What time period and region? Leica is rare in the US, but not in Europe. Holga was a little plastic camera that got some notoriety for having interesting light leaks.

Hasselblad. It sounds like Hasselhoff, which makes the name intrinsically funny sounding.

What time period and region? 80s, and the adventure is set in Sweden and... Hasselblad. It sounds like Hasselhoff, which makes the name intrinsically funny sounding. I would be culturally insulted if it wasn't for that it was true. (Hasselblad is a Swedish brand. It means 'hazel leaf', and it's even from my hometown Gothenburg.)

When I worked at McDonnell Douglas, all the aviation photographers use Hasselblads, except for one guy, who used a Japanese camera (don't remember the name, started with an M).

If you are in Sweeden I feel like I should ask what your common brands are over there. I'm assuming Nikon and Cannon, but maybe others wouldn't be common to you that are to us.
Hasselblad are medium format cameras and are crazy expensive. I think at one point they had the highest resolution digital camera on the market, but that was 12 years ago.

Thanks to all the suggestions. :-) I think I'll actually go with Hasselblad; it's not rare or weird, but it's still expensive and uncommon enough to work as a fun clue. (But I'm really tempted to pick Mamiya because of my secret stork crush. Maybe this will presage a magical adventure for both of us?)

Thanks for refreshing my memory! This article features Lomo, which I was wracking my brain to recall. Lomo has a huge fanbase because its inherent low-quality build unintentionally produces some stunning effects. If I were ever going to put an artifact-like camera in a game, it'd be a Lomo.
