Twelve episodes into Netflix’s The Punisher, and I’m astounded at how good it is. It suffers none of the mid-season longueur that hampers other Marvel Netflix series, but more than that it takes a character that I’ve never really liked, and makes him more human than any comic version I’ve ever read. It’s performed a miracle: For the first time in the history of the character, I have SYMPATHY for him. I actually care about him.
You may have seen trashy attempts to bring this character to the screen, staring Dolph Lundgren and Thomas Jane among others, that assumed that what makes him interesting is the violence he does to others. If they put you off watching this one, forget them. None of them can hold a candle to this version.
The only problem is I don’t want to watch the last episode. Because I don’t want it to end.

Just finished The Babadook. Good pacing and visuals, and I thought it was a bit overhyped, but I really, really enjoyed the ending.

Punisher was pretty amazing. On a similar note- I just watched Atomic Blonde. What a fantastic movie!

We just finished Dardevil s2 — gotta say I am not a fan of the season 2 finale, despite enjoying the rest of the series.
I've finished the entirety of Enterprise. I've got some larger thoughts to put down, so I'll likely try to find if HJRPG has a dedicated Star Trek thread or start one.
Now the wife and I are watching MINDHUNTER. It's about the Behavioral Science Unit at the FBI, and the nascent study of serial killers before we really knew what to call them, or even what they are. I read the book a long time ago. The series is great; first two episodes are directed by SE7EN/Zodiac Killer director David Fincher. Episodes 3 and 4 were stylistically identical, so maybe they were handled by people who work with Fincher regularly? Great show so far.

Young Sheldon.
It's surprisingly good. I rolled my eyes when I saw the ads for it, but my husband started watching it and I along with him. It has heart, it's funny, and it makes you think sometimes. It has that "Wonder Years" kind of feel to it. Even if you hate, hate, hate the Big Bang Theory, give this one a watch. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

We are, coincidentally, finishing Big Bang Theory's Japanese Netflix compliment: seasons 1-7. I used to hate the show, now I enjoy it because it makes my nerdy daughter laugh.
We finished MINDHUNTER, it was excellent. David Fincher directed at least three episodes. I really like Fincher.

I know it's something that our Yank Cousins won't get, it just didn't get the same traction in the U.S., but for peoples of a certain age from Oz, NZ, UK or SA - I'm fucking loving the hell outta of this new reboot. 3 episodes in ... I'd play the hell outta an RPG based on Monkey and the Monkey we all remember Aaron

The C-drama Ice Fantasy! I can offer no better summary of it than the one my friend who's watching it with me posted to Facebook a while back (reproduced below). *** So, nerd alert! There's a show on Netflix called Ice Fantasy that I'm attempting to hook anyone susceptible in range on. So, take Lord of the Rings, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Game of Thrones (with less gore), and Avatar: the Last Airbender. Put them in a blender with riding unicorns, hunting pterodactyls, popcorn chicken, wire-fu, convoluted imperial politics, refugees from the cast of Cats, and impossibly pretty people whose allegiances you can readily determine by their use of conveniently color-coded hair products. What you pour out of that blender is Ice Fantasy, and it's much more addictive than I would have expected. Some of the highlights: - Stunning levels of set and costume detailing
- The Fireball of Puberty
- Magically surfing invasion armies
- A carnivorous, owl-munching combat riding unicorn named Turnip (I'm not making this up, you know)
- So many ice colored sets, costumes, and wigs that I changed the default subtitle colors to be able to read anything
- Chances to start learning Mandarin by osmosis
- So much wire fu. Sooooo much wire fu. Everyone's cloak has at least two 'dramatic swirl' wire leashes on it at most times.
A beginning guide to the cast: - Our Heroes, (Ice) Prince Angstmuffin and Lil' Bro (the Only Sane One in the Madhouse, who also turns out stunningly beautiful after being hit by the Fireball of Puberty)
- Our Heroine, the Unicorn-Riding, Whip-Wielding, Pterodactyl-Shooting Combat Gal (and this is just episode 1)
- The Mongol Steppes-based Greek chorus including Sir Friendzone, representing Team Unrequited Crush #2 (again, this is still episode 1)
- Granny Birdsnest
- Prince Smirk
- That Other Prince Who Wishes He was as Awesome as Prince Smirk
- King Pantene, Lord of All Hair Product He Surveys (it has got to take serious levels of magical power to keep his head from igniting around all that volcanic action)
- King Lipgloss, Wielder of All the Frost-Iridescent Makeup
- Princess Spitfire, the gal we love to hate
- Princess Dimbulb, the gal we just plain hate (originator of, but not sole source of, the mantra "Ban all mermaids!")
- Her grandmum, Mermaid Queen of the Lollipop Guild (whom we meet wanting Princess Dimbulb to be Team Unrequited Crush #1, except she ends up on team #3 at which point it's less politically useful)
- Team Unrequited Crush #4, aka Golden Retriever Puppy and Lady RBF
- Loads of characters who get interesting costume detailing and dramatic looking combat moves, just to get zorched in the next 30 seconds - note: if they don't appear in the credits, don't get too attached until the episode is over, and even then, don't get too attached
....yeah, I'm not sure how to ramble much more without getting into spoiler territory. You can get through extraordinary quantities of plot development within the span of one episode. The episodes also seem to cut off whenever they hit the 45 minute mark, regardless of what's actually happening at any given moment. It's not necessarily GOOD television, but at the same time it's AWESOME. *** And here's a slightly more serious writeup: medium.com/@nettlefish/ever-wondered-to-see-another-culture-take-on-those-ever-so-familiar-high-fantasy-genre-567aa9c75ef0
