Exactly what it says in the title. The second edition of Monsterhearts has been released to Kickstarter backers and is up on DriveThruRPG. It's only $10. Printouts for the game are here (at the bottom of the page). If you're familiar with first edition, or PbtA games in general, you could probably play with just those handouts.

How different is it from 1e? I've got that but yet to play it so don't know whether it's worth picking up right now.

I've only read the player aids so far, but there are some noticeable changes from 1e to 2e. - Turn Someone On has new wording for the results.
- Manipulate and NPC is gone. The only way you can get NPCs to do what you want is by Pulling Strings on them.
- Shut Someone Down has revised wording.
- Hold Steady is now Keep Your Cool; same idea but new wording.
- Lash Out Physically has new wording and result options.
- Run Away has new result options.
- Gaze Into the Abyss has new wording that requires the player to state what they are looking for.
- Highlighting stats to gain XP is gone. Players now mark XP on a failed roll.
- Pulling Strings, previously Spending Strings, has been simplified a bit.
- MC Moves have been renamed Reactions.
- NPCs are now called Side Characters.
- There are now rules for asexuality and non-attraction.
Nearly all the Skins have had some sort of tweaks made to them. They have a new layout and each has two statlines; players choose which one they want when making their character. The Chosen is no longer a "core Skin"; it and the Serpentine are available on the website, but are considered optional. The Hollow has moved to the main book. The Ghost and the Ghoul have had major changes; the Ghost to be more interactive and the Ghoul to be less of a stalker. Phew. Looking at that list, those are some major changes, some of which I don't necessarily care for. However despite those changes it is still the same game as 1e.

I played a hybrid of 1e & 2e at camp nerdly that seemed to go pretty well.
I prefer having the manipulate a side character move.

Yeah, I was really surprised at the removal of Manipulate an NPC as well. I still have mixed feelings about it.
On the one hand, the protagonists are teenagers. They're not meant to have the emotional maturity or insight to get people to do what they want. It makes fictional sense. It also really encourages the players to have characters flirt with each other, as Pulling Strings is now the only way to get people to do what you want, and you get Strings from Turning Someone On.
On the other hand, if you can only manipulate people by spending Strings and get those Strings from Turning Someone On, what about parents, teachers, and platonic friendships? I'm fine with teenagers flirting with and having sex with each other, but teenagers doing that to parents and teachers? Ehh, that gets really creepy. (It's also why I try to have as few adult NPCs in my games as possible.)
My most recent Monsterhearts character was a Mortal whose younger sister, a side character, was slowly turning into a vampire. I could somewhat control her with Manipulate an NPCor by spending Strings, but I would never use Turn Someone On on her. With the loss of Manipulate an NPC, my Mortal's attempts to reign in her sister become MC Moves. Which I guess is fair, and certainly dramatic, but it's also a bit unsatisfying.
Which might be the whole point. Being powerless to control your environment, other people, and even your own body is a big part of the game.
