Did you see his dice bubble thingy? He was going to buy them in bulk from China and call them a new invention. His kickstarter got suspended. The funny thin is, Zack Sabbath showed on his blog how to take a Boggle popper apart and put rpg dice in it about 4 years ago. So he even stole the idea.

I've been lucky so far, all of the 36 projects I've backed have shipped the main product... eventually. I've had a few where the stretch goals never materialised but in general I view those as bonuses and don't back based on those.
Worst project to date was the new edition of Metamorphosis Alpha, utter train wreck compounded by the fact that when I did eventually receive the game it was pretty meh. Not bad just uninspiring and very generic. Most consistently late has to be the various Dead Gentlemen / ZOE projects I've backed, almost a third of all my pledges have gone to them. The difference with them is that the final product is always excellent and even when things are late they do always show up in full.

I've done pretty well with my Kickstarters. I am still waiting on "Far West" from GMS and Adamant Entertainment.
Fund date: 25-August-2011

On Kickstarter: My only experience was backing a known quantity (the new 7th Sea) made by a known author (John Wick) who has consistantly produced products under his own banner for years after leaving FRPG/AEG.
I have been rewarded far more than I expected. I got all the first edition 7th Sea pdfs, including the d20 versions, and when they promised a pdf of all of their upcoming products... I didn't expect as many PDFs as I've gotten. I have so many I haven't even opened or downloaded...
I think what I see as a problem with the success of KS and other products like that is... whereas it used to benefit small publishers or products, now you have top-tier AAA companies using Kickstarter so they don't have to use their own capital. As long as people can get their money back if it doesn't hit a certain date, I'm okay with that. But, if a company - let's say White Wolf - have the option to push back the release date and not give a refund, essentially making this product vaporware while they take your $20+ dollars and use it for booth space for example? That's a problem. I'm reminded of my friend who introduced me to the podcast and his story of Starcraft: Ghost. He put $5 preorder down as a gamble that it would show up, and if it didn't? It's five bucks.

I've had a few projects go screwy, but the one that really takes the cake for me is the new version of Top Secret: New World Order. They estimated delivery of the pdfs in October. They said they were done in October. They've just decided that they're not going to send them out until the physical copies are ready some time next year. It's the only time I've had something I backed for delayed because the creator simply refused to email something that was already finished.

That’s screwy enough to make me doubt it.

I can confirm. TSR have decided to withhold the pdf's until the hardcopies are ready to ship. They have a reason "they do not wish to detract from the final (hardcopy) product" - by this they mean that they don't want to penalise the higher tier hardcopy backers by delaying their access to the product compared to the pdf only backers (who could, in theory, access the game right now). It's not really odd logic, it's just unconventional within the normal conduct of KS projects ... but think about it for a bit: a backer at higher tier cannot access the game before a backer at a lower tier, not only that pdf only backers (with earlier access) could then go and PoD those pdf's OR clean the pdf of watermarks and release them into the wilds of the internet (and THAT would definitely happen) Aaron

There's two problems with that. First, everybody gets the pdf, so everybody gets the same access when they go out. Second, if you look at the estimated delivery times in the pledge tiers, you can see the plan from day one was deliver the pdfs before the physical copies.
My part in the whole fiasco is now over. I asked to be removed as a backer. That happened last night and I got a refund, without asking for one. Judging by the comments on the Kickstarter page, I'm probably not the only one walking away.

It's being printed though and it is coming, just later than expected but that's KS all over. Aaron

I have found that delivery dates on Kickstarter are an optimistic best case approximation most of the time. Very few deliver on time. Kevin Crawford of Sine Nomine being one notable exception.

If I ever have a Kickstarter, I'm going to pad the ship date by 6 months.
