I also thought he'd be stoked to learn spellcasting, but when I made a mouth in his hand start whispering secrets to him, he was going to chop it off. There's just no pleasing some people. Yeesh, some people's players, right?

I graduated in 1991 and worked at the O'Neill Sportswear offices on 41st until 1993.

I really want a royalty-free sound effect of a bunch of guys beating a dead horse. Maybe I'll put one together from different sounds...

So, this dead horses thing...... Stu Venable Having read the GeneSys corebook, you guys might want a credit for the social encounters section. To cut to the chase, in GeneSys characters come with a Strength, a Desire, a Fear and a Flaw, and these can be pretty much anything you like (they do give you a table to roll on if you like). In the social encounters section, the devs suggest that PC's could spend triumphs and advantages to discover their opponents Strength, Desire, Fear or Flaw, and if the PC then uses that in their approach, the GM should give them boost dice on their roll. That sounds very similar (eerily familiar even) to your discussions on this, where you suggest giving players some sort of advantage in a social encounter if they know how to push their opponent's buttons. Of course, the flip side of this is that the GM could spend threats or despairs to have their NPC discover the PC's Strength, Desire, Fear or Flaw and use that against them, but you rolls the dice, you takes your chances..... Now, I'm going to say right now that I'm equally ok with players RPing with each other_and_I'm ok with them using social skills in that RP if the players are. I like the GeneSys take on it, but that may be because it really does sound like your opinion on it from podcasts past. It almost makes one wonder if any of the GeneSys devs listen to Happy Jacks, doesn't it?

Hey, tyler , I'm listening to s11 now — you mentioned being in Santa Cruz at one point. What years were you there? I graduated in 1991 and worked at the O'Neill Sportswear offices on 41st until 1993. I grew up in the area. Lived in Wastonville until I was like, 20. Moved to Soquel/Capitola until Imoved to LA in 2005, then back up to Watsonville in 2015. My wife and I live in San Jose now, though, and avoid Santa Cruz as much as possible.
