FYI, Fear the Boot's current episode is about just this topic (specifically Imposter Syndrome). Oh good to know! I'm gonna go check that out (haven't listened to their stuff in a while).

FYI, Fear the Boot's current episode is about just this topic (specifically Imposter Syndrome). They did a very good job of covering the topic. I especially identify with Chad's advice: fail fast. If it's not working, end it and start again. And if any of you are active in the FtB community, let them know, we're totally down for another host exchange (even if lawn mowing is part of the exchange -- Stork has lots of airline miles stocked up). I sent Dan a message on discord which links back to here. Not sure if he has contact details for you, but I mentioned he could catch you on the forum or likely Kimi on discord (since she was in the FtB discord at one point in time). Best of luck working it out with them.

I'm probably just an old fart, but that dude's hairstyle, facial hair, and other grooming decisions cause me to approach anything leaving his pie-hole with skepticism. I have to say, Adam Koebel is my least favorite internet RPG personality. The stuff he did for the DM round-table made me want to remove his voicebox. I'll stop now, but I could go on. To the point of the question... I think GM's should always be worried about how they did. Breaking down your mistakes and learning from them is important. But when it keeps you from doing it... when it keeps you from taking the GM chair... that's when its a problem. A few weeks ago I ran a game where I tried something different and it went to hell in a handbasket. I beat myself up for a few days about it. I finally sat down with my players and asked them what they "didn't like about that session". There response was "It didn't seem like YOU were having fun." It made me realize I need to make sure its fun for me as well as them. Just my 2 cents.

Tying in with the Imposter Syndrome, I learned about LIWC ("Luke") on Invisibilia. Here's a brief on it: The way that the Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count (LIWC) program works is fairly simple. Basically, it reads a given text and counts the percentage of words that reflect different emotions, thinking styles, social concerns, and even parts of speech.
What they had found is that people who use "I feel" statements - you know, like they tell you to use, to be open and expressive emotionally - were also more likely to get stuck in their own head. I think the test was they had people journal and looked for the pattern. People who tended to say 'I feel" were more apt to not let go of events that happened to them, their writing went back to it, etc. Even found that poets who wrote more 'I feel' statements were statistically more likely to commit suicide.
