Some of my favourite character ideas never got to see game time due to campaigns falling apart after the first session or two.
One of my favourites was a dwarven cook who was disgusted by the rations most explorers had to take with them to survive. He decided to join a group so he could do research for his cookbook "(blank) Soup For the Adventuring Soul", filled with recipes that could easily be changed based on whatever plants or recently slain monsters were available at the time.
Does anyone else have a character they loved that never had the chance to shine?

Are you a fan of the manga "Delicious in Dungeon" by any chance?

As a player in a Rippers game I rolled up The Batsman. Rippers is a Victorian-era monster hunters game and the characters can join certain factions within the Rippers, one of which is the Masked Avengers. They are proto-superhero vigilantes who take on a masked persona to fight monsters. Nigel Willoughby was a simpering British gentleman who's out-of-costume persona was based on comedian Terry-Thomas. In costume, however, he was the Batsman, a cricket-themed superhero who could fight with anything he could pick up (but his preferred weapon was his bat), was an expert marksman with thrown specialty cricket balls (glue, explosive, smoke, etc.). The GM started the game in London but moved it to New York. I couldn't come up with a reason why an English Lord would stay in the US, so I had him return home and made up a new character. But lordy he was fun while he lasted!

But lordy he was fun while he lasted! Why, to woo and wed that beautiful American Actress, of course. It's ok! The replacement character was just as fun, but for an entirely different reason. She was Evelyn Whateley, of Boston, graduate of Miskatonic University. "Erm... the Dunwich Whateleys are poor relations and we don't speak of them." Anyway, with the GM's permission she had a rather... unusual form of magic, as I'm sure you can suspect. She absolutely did NOT wield the Enochian angelic magic of the Rosicrucians. She was what TVTropes calls a Sociopathic Hero, and that's putting it mildly. She was at least on the good guy's side, but she was not "good".

Are you a fan of the manga "Delicious in Dungeon" by any chance? I don't really read manga that often but I'm looking at the Wikipedia page now and I feel like I should get this one since it looks really good. I got worried and had to go back and double check my Twitter for when I came up with my character to make sure I didn't subconsciously steal it from this guy, lol
