I am thinking about running a star wars game (in the vein of Season 1 of Rebels) and I want to try running it in an Apocalypse engine game. I found Star Wars World which is a fan hack of Star wars, but it only has Playbooks. I also found Impulse Drive which is an off-brand "Space Opera" version of the game which has a full ruleset. I have never run a PBTA game before and so I like the idea of having a fully developed ruleset instead of just a bunch of playbooks, but I'm not sure how much of a difference that would make. So I was wondering if people would have some ideas about which of them would work better. Also, if Star Wars World looks developed enough to play, which PbtA book would be the best one to read to be able to talk in the proper language.

OH, boy. I recommend trying a PbtA game that is fully formed before tackling anything that is half made up if it is your first.
Then again, it took me a few fully formed games to actually "get it" so YMMV.

Thank you, after reading through that pdf I think I've decided that I'm going to actually run it in Impulse Drive. The moves seem more developed and thought out. I might make a couple of custom moves for some force powers and/or allow people to take moves from other playbooks if people want either of those but I like the "Ship Playbook" as well as the fully fleshed out gear, modification and threat lists.

I actually love the Star Wars World, but then again, I've played a lot of PbtA. I think original Apocalypse World would be your best option for getting close to how SWW works. Monster of the Week is also an excellent book in terms of explaining how to play PbtA.
I'm not familiar with Impulse Drive, so can't offer an opinion on that. But I've played several sessions and a couple campaigns with SWW, and it recreates Star Wars extremely well. And I always suggest to suppress any fears with running PbtA games. They're so much easier in many ways. If you've played any PbtA, you can figure out how to play or run any other one.

Very late to the party, but have you looked at Uncharted Worlds? It's a sci-fi PbtA game that could probably do Star Wars. I also agree that you should play a game "as is" before you go hacking it, which goes for every game, not just PbtA stuff.

I think with the Far Beyond Humanity source book you could do it for about $25 www.drivethrurpg.com/m/product/162122 The core book is $10 And the source book is $10 www.drivethrurpg.com/m/product/215816

Ahh yeah. I keep meaning to get FBH. I kind of forgot that aliens are a big deal in Star Wars. Good call.
