Ok, the discussion on the latest podcast has convinced me to try and run a game for JackerCon. It's been a while since I ran anything online though and I'm on a relatively old laptop.
So, question for those more in the know than me: what's the best option for running a game that isn't too resource intensive? Video is preferable and I shouldn't need a VTT or the like beyond the ability to roll dice. Anybody got suggestions?

Google Hangouts is what our group uses, combined with Tavern-Keeper for character sheets, wiki information, NPCs, etc. Google Hangout also has a dice roller function in its chat window (type /roll1d20 , IIRC). I understand Discord is also pretty good, though I haven’t gotten to try it out yet.

Discord seems to be the place where conversations happen around the AP, and I've heard it is used for online play. Maybe we should make that the new official platform to end the malaise and confusion after Hangouts?

Maybe we should make that the new official platform to end the malaise and confusion after Hangouts? I’ve also heard it’s a more stable platform, and if I’ve understood the update messages they’ve been sending me, it also has video functions like Hangouts. I’d like to try it, but getting the rest of my group to try it out has thus far been unsuccessful, between having to download and install it, having slow or malfunctioning computers (so they have to switch to smartphones or tablets), and unfamiliarity with how Discord works. Not to be a naysayer, mind you. I’ve seen a lot of artist groups on Twitter and Twitch video game streamers doing Discord groups, so clearly It’s A Thing, and we Olds are easily confused. 😅

You know, I kind of feel the same. Another newfangled internet thingie? We olds are easily confused, indeed.
