Just promoting a longtime LARP I've been to. It has run a continuous story for over 20 years. It has a magic system that can be picked apart and put back together so you can create your own spells. (from Fireballs to Paternity Tests, it can be created).
It's a neat LARP with a "Be All You Can Be" mentality. The best weapon wielders in game have trained to be good fighting with weapons. They don't have massive hit points or anything like that. If you happen to be good with weapons, you could probably come in and hold your own sparring with characters that have been around for decades. You can train to be better with weapons, which helps you at every other LARP because you are really learning techniques to make you a better fighter.
It's about immersion. There are no character cards describing how something looks. There are makeup, costuming, and props departments to make things look like how they should in game. Skills involve actually doing something.
This takes place in Hamburg, PA. If you happen to be in the Northeast, take a look at it.
Gillsing: Interesting fact about a movie that put me to sleep the first two times I tried to watch it at RPG cons. The third time I managed to stay awake, and was disappointed. Everyone seemed to like it so much. But apparently it was not for me. Story of my life.
