Excited for the book, but I'm not certain the AGE system is a great fit for the setting. Has anyone played it outside of fantasy?

I've downloaded the quick start but haven't got around to reading it yet. I'm also unsure whether it will fit the setting and I'm also not sure which aspect of the setting they're really focusing on, a crew of a ship, the politics, the exploration? I have to say I'm actually a little disappointed with the level of information in the kickstarter, with the exception of supplying a quick start its really minimal. It feels like they knew they were going to succeed and therefore didn't need to supply any real details.

I like the premise and setting, but a system I'm not excited about doing it? Meh. I'll just wait until someone runs it and sees how it goes. They don't need my $$... I'll save that for the smaller projects that otherwise don't fly without the support that are doing things I'm actually excited about game-wise.

So I've skimmed the quickstart and I'm still underwhelmed. Looks like a bit of a generic system that really doesn't excite me. A couple of elements had potential such as the churn mechanic but again they just don't seem to pop.
What bugs me is that I can't really pin down why. There are plenty of games I enjoy with so so mechanics. Maybe it's the presentation, so far I feel like there has been little that sells it as the expanse, based on the kickstarter alone I feel like it could be absolutely any space opera setting.

Quick note to say we didn’t play The Expanse yesterday, but Flotsam instead. (We didn’t like it). Expanse next week.

Played half an adventure this evening. The adventure is great. Feels like the TV show and am I so into my pre-gen character, hacker Izzy Moon. The system seems to put an investigative bent on AGE, but in the QuickStart two different authors seem to have two different views on how it goes. The rules are very GUMshoe - if you have the focus, you get the clue. But the adventure specifies target numbers to get on the dice.
The mechanic has AGEs doubles earn stunts rule. In the combat we got a LOT of stunts, enabling us to pepper our antagonists with multiple shots (lighting attacks allows you to attack twice, earning further stunts that allowed an Ally to get a free shot on the same target) before they fired a shot. Annoyingly given the Drama dice mechanic (a different coloured d6 indicates the effectiveness of your success) you still have to make a second roll to determine damage. That feels very old fashioned, and has the effect of getting a high success roll to hit undermined by rolling snake eyes on damage. Traveller solved that problem FORTY YEARS AGO.
In short, if I was and AGE player and wanted a SciFi version. I would be in this like a shot. I bet Wil Wheaton runs an AP stream on G&S. But me buy another serviceable system just to play in The Expanse? No thanks.

Interesting, sort of the same conclusion I came to so looks like I now have to decide on whether just to back it for the setting material.
