I just have to say, Admiral Care Bear is going to be really upset if you lose the Garbage Can.

Just to say I am thoroughly enjoying the AP.
So far Trist is a stand out and is awesome, Rorg is also cool as Klingons are cool, not that any of the characters aren’t but they are particularly standing out for me.
Just a few comments as they may be important, when people or the ship assist someone making a roll they only get to roll 1 extra dice and not 2 dice as was being done, also not relevant so far but you can only have a maximum of 5 D20’s on a roll whether they are yours, the ships, a team mates or dice brought with momentum or threat.
Focuses, although not come up so far, Dave keeps mentioning that a focus doubles how many successes a person makes on a certain roll, although partially correct not quite what is coming across. What a focus does is give 2 successes when the die is under the discipline rating.
As an example if you are shooting a phaser and you have security 5 and control 12 with the hand phasers focus. Any roll under 17 is a success unless it’s a 5 or under in which case its 2 successes, so if you rolled a 3, 7 and 16 that would be 4 successes.
Its worth noting that the ship is considered to have all appropriate focuses, so if its security is 3 then any security roll the ship makes that’s a 3 or less will give 2 successes
I will also note that the ship assists with almost anything done on the ship, so when Adam rolled at the start to find out the info on black ops the ship would have been able to assist most likely with its computer and security.
Or it can be used as a trait to make rolls 1 easier, as an example the ship has a medbay and therefore can assist with its medicine/computer or can be used to make any rolls easier by 1 degree, unless they have picked the advanced ship by talent which then provides both.
Edit
Further listening, and on the medicine roll that the doctor made, Adam was correct, a focus doesn’t double the number of successes that a roll makes, it just increases the level of what numbers give 2 successes, so both the 1 and 4 would have given 2 each, not 2 and 1 doubled to 6.

Awesome! Thanks for the clarifications. It's a really complicated system to start with, but I feel like it gets easier pretty quickly.

I does seem to be a much more rulesy and crunchy system than I was expecting.

It does get much easier like most things practice and use helps.
Also something I hadn’t noticed is if the players had made notes of the bonuses they get for their role within the crew, P126 in the PDF.
As an example players in general can only play determination points for themselves and not on other people roles, except for the captain, the captains role allows him to spend his determination for other players as long as they are capable of being communicated with and does not require the use of a value. So as it stands if Adam wanted to help J with an engineering roll, he could spend a determination point to give him a D20 that’s on a 1.
Chief engineer, while aboard ship has the advantage of `Engineering department’ effectively making most of their rolls for engineering 1 easier.
Chief medical officer, while aboard ship has the advantage `Medical department’ again making most rolls 1 easier.
Ships counsellor, after succeeding at a task to determine the emotional state or intent of another living creature they gain 1 bonus momentum that can only be used on the obtain information spend, a such it can’t be saved for other things but you can find out more things.
A couple of things on momentum, first it caps at 6 and trust me that cap is needed. But more importantly every time a scene changes or in combat a round ends the party lose 1 if they have any.
System itself is simple, add attribute and discipline roll 2D20 and try to get under that number, its only the extra little bits that get quirky.
For damage the dice are interesting, although I will note that phasers come with the `charge’ quality meaning that you take a minor action to activate (so no aiming or moving really) you can give the attack one of the following traits, Area (each symbol allows an additional target within close range to be hit), Intense (each symbol means that it cost 1 extra momentum to avoid an injury), piercing 2 (each symbol ignores 2 points of armour), vicious 1 (each symbol adds 1 damage).
And I will note that for weapons that have multiple traits the symbols activate all abilities, so if a weapon is both area and viscous 1 and you roll 3 symbols you could hit 3 extra targets and do 3 extra damage, I think this is most likely in space combat as the ship weapons have more abilities.

The name of the captain of the Barbican should be Captain Petard.

I'll throw my love into the mix and say that I am very excited to witness the second session and all those that follow. I'm also interested to learn (1) whether Nick's character gen was a clever ploy, (2) who the mystery player is, (3) what the hell is happening, (4) for whom will a console next explode, and (5) which session someone won't make a Star Wars reference.
Edit: Posted right before I realized session 2 was up.

Haha, Nick's character gen was not a ploy. We thought he'd get to play a few sessions with us before having to disappear. And we were going to have him die for the drama of it. I thought Isaac was going to stay Commander and we'd play it as though we were eventually getting a new captain. I had no idea I was getting permanently promoted, haha! I think the reason he went off on a secret mission was actually so he could come back at some point. We're hopeful. Where did Nick go? (if it's not a secret)

Not sure. I think he is taking some sort of class. Or he might be an international super spy.

My bet is on the spy gig...but he can't tell us 'cause then he'd have to kill us... just like Dave was gonna kill his character!
