Hi folks,
Short story:
Need references for Savage Worlds material to recreate a DnD 3.5 game with lots of magic and loot. Any "savaged DnD projects" or opinions on Fantasy Kit, Shaintar, etc that I can buy for reference material to rebuild my world?
Long story:
My group and I have wandered through systems and settings over the last few years, but have never been able to recapture the spark of our DnD 3.0/3.5 campaigns. The main reason it died was the GM's inability to handle five level 15 characters created using the Savage Species rules and pulled from a pile of books, while having a life.
That GM would be me ...
Although not a huge DnD enthusiast, I found running the game fun because I could just focus on interesting characters, plots and encounters settings. It was great...until about level 10ish. Then it just became a marathon of rules lawyering, number tracking and cross referencing. I can handle a little big of thought and math, but it was just taking up too much time once we hit double digits.
On the otherhand, straight role-playing is awesome and rewarding on its own, I miss being able to plop down a pile of books to assemble loot, monsters and traps from. My players miss being able to assemble skills and items to make cool character sheets as well as cool characters.
Alot of the the systems we try now are just too ... similar. Role-playing the character makes them unique but when it is time to throw-down they just don't feel as uniquely capable.
My hope is take the Savage Worlds system and maybe weigh it down with some DnD-ish characteristics to find that balance of easy game play and high character customization.
Am I just crazy or has someone tried this yet?
Thanks in advance for any advice,
BobtheViking
