I don't know about subsequent printings but the original indexed map - DON'T refer to it for adventure/event locales. It's embarrassingly incorrect, even a truanting chav from a sink estate would know that most of the towns and cities are in the wrong place (except London). Eg: Liverpool, a port city, has been placed inland (?) in the region of Manchester. Believe me being a Manchester local for the better part of a decade now that is not a good mistake to make. True Manchester has a port thanks to the ship canal built in the 19th century, it's this very canal that has always been a source of animosity between Soucers and Manchunians . . . The Soucers seeing it as stealing their traditional trade as a port city, the Manchunians having built it precisely to circumvent the extortionate charges the Liverpool Port Authorities placed on trade thru their harbours.
That's just one example above - the events/locales and Cthulhu mythos text references are accurate enough though . . .
If one were to set a Cthulhu campaign in the land of blighty I'd recommend setting it in the north of England (remembering that England and Wales and Scotland are separate nations within the Island of the United Kingdom) due to it's rich history of witchcraft and associated legends. A Gaslight campaign would thrive in the Northwest as it would be during the height of the Industrial Revolution with dark foreboding Mills on the sky line and perpetual smog from the chimneys working 24/7 to power the wheels of industry. So important was the Northwest at that time that it was where Karl Marx made his observations on the class system and the blight of the working classes in penning his communist manifesto in a small office in Manchester City.
I mention this because it's just so cliche that everyone always runs UK Cthulhu stuff in London and its pretty boring really. Most of the interesting stuff for occult horror is outside of London. I've toyed with the idea of a one shot Cthulhu scenario based on the very real Moor's Murders and a mysterious (unsolved) murder in Todmorden in the 1980's (linked to claims of UFO abduction by the investigating police officer). Investigators would be able to research the details and background information 'for real' using the Internet and library sources . . . Because the Internet is littered with information on these two real events . . .
