I was going to run a V20 game, and as stated in the "Rolling Damage" Thread the Translation guide didn't help me do what I wanted with converting things. In light of this, I asked each player to choose either classic WoD rule set or new WoD rule set. Since most of them are new to WoD in general, the majority chose new WoD since it is more streamlined and easier to pick up. I should point out that I'm a classic WoD player through and through, so that is where my knowledge lies. I love Masquerade and I've always been intrigued by Requiem, just didn't have a group to play it with so I never read the book despite owning it. Since we are all new to setting (I've played and ran nWoD before), does anyone out there have any VTR specific advice to a GM running it for the first time? Right now I'm only allowing what's available in the VTR Core Book, WoD Core Book, and Armory (with restrictions). I also plan to use some of the ideas in Mirrors book. Thanks in advance .

Well, do you have any specific questions or concerns about running a V:tR game, or are you just looking for general advice?
The first thing that popped into my head is, *don't* reduce things to a dark superhero game. As you're an old WoD player I probably don't have to say this, but the whole point of the game is to explore whether the characters can (or even want to) retain their humanity after being Embraced. When one of your PCs feeds from a person, as the Storyteller you need to make it matter. That's the whole point of the game.
If you reduce feeding to simple die rolls to regain Blood Points, the game really loses something. It's not gothic horror anymore, it's a dark superhero game where the players can ignore the fact they are (possibly) killing people to continue their existence. Don't let them. You don't have to role play it out every time a PC feeds, but it should never be an easy decision for the player.

No nothing specific. Reading through the core book, it is VERY different from Masquerade, yet it doesn't seem really all that different. It's just very intimidating especially since I'm used to being a player and not an ST.
Thanks for the advice about feeding and humanity. I really don't want it to turn into a "Dark Superhero" and I don't want feeding to be an easy decision either.

A lot dependson the type of story you want to tell. I ran old WOD for many years and I feel that VTR is the closest to the old feel as far as play and theme go so good choice there. Since you haven't stated any specific areas you are worried about I'll mention some that I ran into.
First off, don't get caught up in the old vampire idea of only onefaction can be represented in your group. The factions in VTR are meant to be isable in a mixed group. The cam\Sabbat dicotomy of the old game tends to stick with us older folks but you can wind up with a much more satisfying game if you explore the onterplay of the different factions.
Second, don't be afraid to bring on other supernaturals. The new WOD is balanced enough that a single mage or pack of werewolves will overpower your game. Explore the possible interactions with these others. Maybe your sheriff has a pack of werewolves on call to help hunt down criminals or the prince has a mage advisor. These possibilites are much easier to pull off in NWOD.
I hope you have a great time running this game. It's a solid system that I like andI hopeyou wind up liking it too.

While I like the rules system for nWoD (I really want to try out the God Machine update), I ended up burning myself out on the Vampire aspect. I find that I'm better at running one shots or Convention style games, where the focus is more narrow. When I try to run longer games, I tend to overthink everything and end up just being done before we get anywhere. If I run it again as a one shot, I will give mixing the supernaturals a try. Thank you!

Ran Mortals!!!!!!
Not mixed supernaturals! Its silly and pointless.
The most fun nWoD game we ever played was a mortals game where our characters were complete random dudes (a rapper, an old whaler and a stock exchange trader) thrust in the world of the supernatural!!!
