I might be the only person I know (except maybe Tappy) who is geeky enough to dig that explanation.

Ya, I minored in math... it's fun stuff, but i wouldn't remember how to do this type of thing, just read it.
I remember reading SW and thinking that rolling d4's means you never get a '4', always a 1-3, or 4+more rolls. The anomaly is interesting that a d4 can statistically beat a d6 at a very specific target: 6. And likewise with all dice, the one lower can beat it slightly at the specific target (equal to the highest roll on the higher die, each time).
I guess it just doesn't seem worth fixing if people don't really care, and hey, if it's about simplicity in lieu of role playing, then who cares if occasionally the stats are a little off... it's not like they're gonna use this for an MMO, and it doesn't seem like munchkins would thrive in savage world's lands, but what do I know.

Rather than simplicity in favor of role playing, I would say it's simplicity in favor of accuracy. But the point is the same.
I like the fact that in Savage Worlds the exploding die means that you CAN do hateful amounts of damage with a relatively minor weapon.
That possibility, I think, adds an element of excitement and danger to the game.

It seems to be a good system game if you want things to be a little dangerous (compared to common d20s) and enjoy the occasional major "AMAZING!" or "OH SHIT!" moments in your game. Speaking in RAW terms that is.

OK, I ran my first SW game for 5 friends (all noobs to RPG), and it was DOPE! Yes, this system is bee-yoo-tiful for simple story telling. The "oh shit" moments are great, whether by the players or against.
And I love that the DM gets bennies... The bad guys are important too! :-)

My group already made a player retire a d6 because he exploded five times in a row. It was epic but holy shit that was excessive. Loving the system though. Luckily for me that explosion was on a roll to recover from shaken and not a damage roll.

Other than the emotional reaction, there's usually no real difference between hitting an extra for 87 points of damage and something in the low teens.

I believe the most insane explosins I have seen were 10-11 explosion on a sigle d6 and 7 explosions on a d10 damage roll in l5r, needless to say, that dude was dead.

I love it! Like everyone else said. for simplicity sake, I don't think I would change the system to "fix" the problem. It kind of gives it a bit of the underdog feel for certain situations and I like that
