My apologies to those of you who were listening to the stream. If it's any consolation, I figured out the problem near the end of the episode.
If (in the future) you are listening to the stream and it cuts out or doesn't exist at all, remind me via chat to check to make sure I'm connected to the correct router. Turns out I was connected to a router that is very far away from the studio and unable to provide the bandwidth to stream.
Again, my apologies. I realize some of you make arrangements to listen, and I want you to know that I do not take the wasting of your efforts to listen lightly.

From myself at least, its all cool.
The chatroom usually gets into some discussions with itself, and something really fun for a few of us in chat might be getting started thanks to the chat tonight. Besides, I think the quality of the sound of the podcast shows that you guys do not take this stuff lightly. I don't think anyone was thinking you were not doing your best to get the stream up and going.
I'll just have to pay a little more attention to the cast when I'm listening to it while playing Minecraft later this week.

Technical difficulties happen all the time, no harm no foul. Nice of you to post though.

This exact problem happened to my Pathfinder online game last week. All five players on time...Skype working fine but couldn't get Fantasy Grounds going...(no maps, character sheets, I.e. no game for two hours!! ) Fuck! Then I look at the wireless connection and realize my main router dropped the signal and my wireless started hijacking my neighbors connection 1/4 mile away. Thankfully I have patient players...shit happens ladies and gentlemen!

My 15 year old niece asked me if I would teach her how to play Magic, back around Thanksgiving. So I got her and her little sister a few pre-made decks for Christmas. I also had to get Uncle (me) some cards so I could play too.
Now I am actively trying to avoid the addiction that took all of my disposable income in the 90's.
This game is knock down addictive! I think I'm in trouble, bye bye kid's college fund!

Hey GThickhead... I wrote an article about how to make the most of one day at GenCon, and you might want to give it a look see as a place to start to plan your trip. Here it is.I agree with most things the hosts said, I will add to what they said TAKE A REFILLABLE WATER BOTTLE! There are water coolers all over the damn convention center and you will save yourself a TON of money if you take something like that. As for how to carry your shit, I find a messenger bag or something like that to be ideal. You have a ton of little pockets for packing things, side pockets for easy access to the water bottle, etc. The other reason is that I want to tit punch half the people who bring MASSIVE backpacks because you get slammed, bumped, shoved, etc by those people because they forget they ave 2 feet of shit piled on their backs. And walking space is CROWDED, so taking a rolling case or something is a pain in the ass. If you want an example of what I mean check out my video here. Kimi is right on with the clothing tips. Wear comfortable clothes, wear comfortable shoes, wear thick socks, wear well fitting shoes, and wear a few thin layers.

Re: virtual tabletops: Here's a handy reference for those interested to see how their preferred application stacks up against the competition. Also, I hear folks make effective use of Twiddla, a shared whiteboard app. I've yet to try online tabletopping myself, although I'm very interested to do so. I intend to sift through some actual play videos and eventually gather friends far and near for a game.

Oh and I also love Pandemic, was hoping to get it with my christmas gift certificates to the FLGS but it seems it is backordered until like March. My current favorite game is 7 Wonders.
Oh, and if you haven't played Battlestar Galactica the board game DO IT! Its an amazingly good game that has a tv show theme. It feels like you are playing the show. Its awesome. GO PLAY IT! NOW! Its also... sorta cooperative. Everyone is trying to get the humans to jump to Kobol, but there are undercover Cylons aboard who are trying to covertly thwart that goal.

Don't sweat the stream, Stu. Yeah, I was kinda bummed that I couldn't hear anything last week (especially since my GF was out of the house, meaning I waas free to listen) but this kind of stuff happens. Yeah. I heartily second this. Battlestar Galactica is a freaking incredible game and can not recommend it enough. Playing it finally got me to go and watch the TV series, which I'd had no interest in doing until then. Right from the first turn of the game the accusations fly thick and fast. Shouts of "You frakking toaster!" fill the air, and no one is sure about why people are doing certain actions. It's great. I also recommend The Resistance. It's a quick little card game for 5+ players that boils down the paranoia of BSG to an absolutely concentrated form. A great game that you can teach in 60 seconds (unlike BSG). Switching topics, did I hear Kimi mention she knows people who cosplay as Queens Blade characters? I think this is one of the times where I am compelled to say "Pics or it didn't happen." I watched the Queens Blade anime and just barely got through it. I finished it purely for spite. It is nothing but impossibly proportioned women wailing on each other with various weapons and cutting each other's clothes off. I didn't expect there to be much of a story, but even I couldn't stomach the amount of fan service they crammed into this thing. Only watch it to get a sample of the ridiculousness makes it onto Japanese TV.

Re: virtual tabletops: Here's a handy reference for those interested to see how their preferred application stacks up against the competition. From what I gather in the chat room and on the forum, the 2 most used by Forum participants are not on that list. Both Roll20 and Tableforge are not represented there, and do not have as many gaps in content as I'm seeing on that list.

From what I gather in the chat room and on the forum, the 2 most used by Forum participants are not on that list. Yeah, I noticed that also, after the fact. I'm guessing that table hasn't been updated in a while because both Roll20 and Tabletop Forge are listed in the left nav under "The VTTs" but are absent from the comparison table. I think infrno's on there ... or am I missing something?

It has probably been 6 months since I've done a tour of VTT's. The VTT's people use really is a sort of "choose one and stick with it" sort of thing. The kind of thing where people generally just suggest what they use and rarely go outside that comfortable space. My big hang up is the tab like "Page" system with Roll20. It allows me to do things on one page, or prepare that page, while I have the players looking at another page. It also allows me to make whole adventures before the games even start. No one else I've looked at is doing the page thing, so even though there are VTT's with better character sheets, better and easier dice controls, and maybe even more free artwork, I can't give up my pages.
That's a GM's point of view.
As a player I might have liked Fantasy grounds.

Wear comfortable clothes, wear comfortable shoes, wear thick socks, wear well fitting shoes, and wear a few thin layers. I would also add that the Dealer Hall is NEVER not busy. But it is worth taking the 10am till 3-6 pm time one day to check it out. Also the games are not in any set blocks so the "plan a lunch" thing isn't that easy. Like the dealer hall EVERY restaurant is busy ALL of the time. Packing in a lunch is the fastest and if you eat it in the Auction Hall a good way to multi-task. The Auction is not to be missed also! If nothing else take a break in the Auction Hall and watch the action. They run specific types of games through the auction at specific times so you can drop in just for those 4 hr blocks or even 20 minutes. In general I say GenCon survival is as easy as 1,2,3. (actually someone else came up with this ) 1 shower a day 2 meals a day 3 hours sleep a day you can add to these but never take away! Finally I would suggest you register for one of our 3 games. Flapjacks & Sasquatches, Hirelings: The Ascent, and Tricked Out Hero. Not RPGs but fun games run by a great group of guys. I flat out guarantee you will have a good time. Both Flapjacks and Hirelings are only 1 hour. Tricked Out Hero is a longer more serious game but still a blast. I know this is a blatant plug but I mean it, we have a BLAST!
