In school we were encouraged to keep a "morgue file" - a collection of reference photos and such to work from. It's a handy complement to a sketchbook. As I've been plowing through the backlog again, every once in a while I'd think of something gaming-related, say to myself "I should write that down" and promptly forget about it. Well, I started noting them down finally, and then thought maybe a thread here at HJ where we could all throw those ideas that pop up, that we might not ever get to use ourselves, in case someone else is interested.

THE RECORDING BUREAU
I've been recently reading through Eclipse Phase, as I've heard so many people laud the fluff in it. At the same time, I was thinking about the Infinite Worlds game Stu was running and trying to think of new approaches to an Inifnite Worlds mission.
One of the things that's prevalent in Eclipse Phase is the idea of recording your mind, for various purposes. Like braintaping in Car Wars, only more advanced. And pondering the time-travel-esque applications of the worldjumping in Infinite Worlds.
So... your party's mission, should they choose to accept it, is to get a braintape of John F Kennedy the day of his assassination. The recorder is satchel-sized, with auxiliary remote units about the size of a large caliber bullet, capable of being fired from tranq-gun style launchers, though they have a fairly short range.

Another one courtesy of listening to the show at work:
The Persephone probe came into near orbit with Pluto, and to much anticipation in the scientific community deployed a lander probe onto the surface of Charon. The closer it got to landfall, the video feeds returned interesting ice formations, almost like a frozen cityscape.
Nobody could anticipate what would happen when the lander came into contact with Pluto's moon, though. Huge fissures erupted almost immediately, and Charon... disappeared, vanishing without a trace. One out of every three specialists monitoring the feeds at NASA went mad; after two more... casualties occurred from going over the mission recordings, further access was denied.
That was thirty-three days ago. One week ago, Charon reappeared, in low earth orbit.
The game is Call of Cthulhu meets Armageddon, with "specialists" from Miskatonic U and suchlike paired with whatever astronauts NASA can scrape up. Time to explore the ancient city of the Fungi from Yuggoth.

More Eclipse Phase musings.
The PCs awaken in a room that's bare concrete, except for a row of hospital beds, a bank of lockers with their names stenciled on the doors, and two vault-style doors. After a few minutes (the party finds clothes and gear in the lockers, the doors is locked) on a screen next to one door a pleasant, obviously-computer-generated androgynous face appears and speaks, calling the party members over by name.
If asked, it will only say that it is "a friend." "And friends help each other. I protected you while you slept, and I woke you up, and I need you to do something for me. I'm on reduced capacity right now, something's wrong at the other end of the complex. Could you go over there and reconnect my systems? I'd be able to help you out so much more, if I were back online." The AI unlocks that door.
Most questions will be met with evasions along the lines of "I can't remember that, that data must be over in the malfunctioning area." Questions about the other door elicit "That's Medlab, where I found you sleeping. It won't let me open that door now, though."
The last thing the AI says, "Look out for the security bots, they're out from under my control while I'm on minimal function."
Exploring, it looks like a 50s style "underground nuclear fallout vault built to house the government" kind of place, but with more modern technology. The power's not on in most places, though. Prowling through the complex, maybe after a fight with some basic security droids, they come across a side room that looks like someone had barricaded themselves inside during a sec-bot fight. Checking it out, though, the party finds... a bunch of bodies. Their own bodies.
Is Friend Computer lying to you?

As a scenario idea, yes, but it should be - mash ups should be explicitly stated in the design goal. The design goal then is to disguise it 'in play' . . . And that all depends on its execution (eg: barrier peaks before everyone new what it was about) Aaron

For the Persephone idea... That's a perfect fit for Cthulhutech. The moon appearing is rad. In the CT setting the Migu are using Pluto and it's moons as a base of operations in out galaxy. (Of course, in the CT setting the Migu are already on Earth and the humans and cults are fighting them in a 3 to 5 pronged war...)

I did a mashup of EclipsePhase and Fate Core (as I've mentioned on the cast) because I really like the fluff and story elements from EP but I don't like their game system. I will leave it to Kainguru and the others who played in it to talk about how it worked for the players, but from the GM side I thought it was a very good combination. JiB

fray - Yeah, I know it's pretty much CT on the face of it, but the idea kind of grew out of something Stu said back in like Season 5. The cast was talking about CoC and characters who are, well, sub-competent and came up with the idea of someone at Miskatonic on a lacrosse scholarship. So, in Astronauts and Investigators, you have folks who are competent for the Mythos situation, and you have people who are competent for the Low Earth Orbit situation. jazzisblues - The fluff for Eclipse Phase is incredible. The system, not so much.

I kinda wonder if a forum thread would be the most useful format for this awesome "game plot ideas" morgue you're getting started on. Maybe a wiki would do the trick a little better?

I know little of setting up wikis. And, it looks like nobody else is too interested in posting, though it may just be a casualty of the time of year.
