By the way I love how we who didn't get to go to OrcCon have with loving passive aggressiveness totally derailed this thread. 1114 was probably the BEST, most coherent podcast from one of the cons as far as "what did I learn" thingy. So, we the loyal douchebags take such sage advice and bury it under a fuck ton of the above rambling inanity. I do think we are the best forum in the world. I'll drink to that!

There's a learning curve to this whole thing -- the show in general, and the convention shows especially.
We struggled a lot trying to come up with ways to make the convention shows better shows for those listening at home.
It was important to have as much participation from the convention attendees as possible, as audience participation is one of the show's founding principles (along with not editing and burping in the mic).
We're still not quite there yet, but it's nice to know that the improvements have been noticed.

Stu Venable, what do you think needs to be changed for the next one?

Thank god someone realizes that they have principles within this clusterfuck of a hosting milieu.I say that with the sincerest flattery possible. Also, kudos on sticking by the not editing principle. There are WAY too many podcasts out there who edit to the nth degree and come off as bland overproduced hunks of crap(my opinion). I would much rather listen to burping, farting, etc as part of a real and natural conversation than conversations that are chopped up beyond recognition.

I proselytize the no-editing gospel every chance I get. sbloyd My biggest concern with the live con shows is that those listening after the fact get something out of them -- Otherwise, you're just listening to 40 people having a party, which is all kinds of lame. That's why at this one and the previous, I made sure everyone knows that we want more of the lessons learned, what went right, what didn't, etc., and less of the "woohoo! we rock," "my character was awesome," "let's pat ourselves on the back!" The fact is, the latter has turned off people who were AT the con and the 8pm show, but were not familiar with the show, weren't getting anything out of it and left. If we can get those new people to stay, I can be confident we'll have a good show to listen to later.

It was noticeable and appreciated, Stu. In previous con eps, the one that makes me wince the most was... Was it Dmitri? His love-song to Tappy's Sanrio game. Every time I listen thru the backlog, that one's hard (no offense, just... yeah).

Wait. Do you west coast convention gamers seriously have to deal with and look through binders to find where the game tables are or to sign up for day of?
Like, how many binders are there? That seems like a super insane method.

I didn't need to dig through the binders for the past con, but normally the way it is set up is that all the sheets for that day of gaming will be spread out on the tables so you can easily look at them and sign up. The sheets for other days are in binders off to the side.

That seems like a super insane method. There's a binder per day so four of them in total. It's not a hideous method though it can get interesting to watch the nerd rage when people want the same binder. JiB
