I picked up the core book for Edge of the Empire at the convention, and after reading through the character generation and game mechanics sections, I'm sold.
At the very least, I'll run a couple scenarios at the next convention. And once the DnD game reaches it's story end, I'll probably start up a campaign of it.
One big bummer: no PDFs.
I'm sure it's a licensing issues, but in today's market, the mind reels at how popular this game could be if it was available electronically.
I can't wait to try out the dice mechanic at a table.

With you on the pdf thing. FFG seem to be as against them as much as WOTC used to be. I have a friend with extremely compromised vision who finds the hard copy difficult to use; pdf copies are much easier for him. It's a real shame they're not available.
I love the narrative dice system. It puts the game firmly in the hands of the players. I only have to roll the dice in combat, the rest of the time it's just a case of coming up with how threats & despairs shake out. The Adversary talent is a god-send for the GM as well.

FFG seem to be as against them as much as WOTC used to be. If you look over at RPGnow, Star Wars is almost the only thing FFG hasn't released in pdf. While I don't have any first-hand info, I've seen several sources claim Lucas Arts (Lucas Film? Lucas Whatever.) looked at pdfs as "electronic games" and wanted a separate licensing agreement for them, priced like you would expect for an Xbox or PlayStation game.

I've heard a similar story but again don't know how true it is. That there is an official dice roller app for the games makes me wonder though as I'd have thought that would have also been prohibited by that sort of clause.

Yea, FFG does not own the rights to electronic versions of the Star Wars license, so they can not make PDFs. But since you own the copy, I will tell you. PDFs exist.

The dice roller app is a game mechanic aid with no Star Wars fluff beyond name and some sounds . . . most of those sounds seem to have fallen into public property judging by the number of free sound sound board apps that have these sounds in them. I think this is a very rare case where LucasArts gave up pursuing any cease and desist orders once the genie was well and truly let out of the bottle many years ago (ref: how many PC's had many of these sounds as .wav files back in the 90's and early 2000's?) 1. Who do I have to murder to get in this campaign?
2. I once heard the reason for no PDF was their definition of electronic game in that license was broad enough to cover PDFs. Though, the existence of the dice app, makes that claim somewhat dubious.

WOW. Looking over a player's collection, I can't speak to the mechanics, but I ever run GURPS: Star Wars again I will be scanning the shit out of these things. Fantastic production values, like all of FFG.

Though then one could argue all the supplemental books are also accessories.

I can't run more than two campaigns at once. mook -- yes, they are fantastic looking books.

An additional benefit of the FFG license and the RPG is that if you like having minis on the table and like great board games Imperial Assault and X-Wing offer some great models and game tiles that are easily used for the RPG. I usually frown on these kind of manufactured synergies, but since I love Imperial Assault and X-Wing I found it fairly easy to invest in those games and reap the benefit of having some great models and terrain for my RPG. Not only that but the scenarios from IA are great inspiration for creating some fun combat scenarios for the RPG.

Wait a minute!?! Does that mean Stu Venable is going to start to understand the difference between a rodarian and a vulcan!?! Disappointed. Again Stu I recommend getting one of the Beginner Box games just for the kids. They are the best "how to play an RPG" product I've seen produced in years (the other being the Pathfinder Beginner Box).

While I appreciate that I probably shouldn't plug another podcast here, the Order 66 podcast is a really great one dedicated to FFG Star Wars RPG's. They do tend to run long, but the hosts are super enthusiastic about the game and they have a great relationship with the dev's at FFG. They recently had Sam Stewart on to talk about the design process and answer fan questions about F&D, which was very interesting indeed. Well worth a listen (after Happy Jacks, of course).

I've bought four books, and I still don't have the supplement to make Vulcan characters. Maybe they're not going to be a playable race.
