Oh god yes, please choose Bruce Campbell's character as a template. His "over the hill" Face character is perfect for the setting.

choose Bruce Campbell's character as a template. There is no scenario, system, or setting in which basing your PC on Bruce Campbell is a bad idea.

i unfortunately may have to make a character that fits a mercenary group. which means none of my options will work.

anybody got some good mercenary examples that fit a small statured adult woman and fit well with the Ilina Cliche? because i realized the child act doesn't cut it for assassins outside of anime and i might need to rethink my build and concept. might go with a clumsy and clueless combat medic if i had to.

i need help coming up with justifying a particular concept in a modified Tropicana Setting Taking place in the 21st century on Earth. the GM wants a mercenary group and well, most of the concepts i had in mind wouldn't fit a mercenary group, but i was trying to justify how i can bring a small statured geeky young adult woman into a mercenary company. and i was considering making her either the Techie or the Medic of the Group and kind of the younger sister figure of the group. issue is, the group has a combat heavy playstyle, so i need to be somewhat competent at combat. and knowing the GM's GMing Style, all the baddies are probably going to have Kevlar Vests or something better like that and the players are going to start with bare bones equipment.

You should base your character on Ash from Army of Darkness.

got some news updates
a Small Statured Woman that does the "Little Girl Act" to get herself out of trouble is fine as long as i give her equipment a little girl could actually get away with off the bat. Switchblade or Boxcutter was considered fine, as was maybe a stapler and other bits of stationary.
got some other things.
you get 1 free starting signature weapon with 1 reload, the clothes on your back, some miscellaneous mundane gear and a debit card holding 500 dollars. however, there are restrictions on what the starting weapon can be based on allowed access and character clearance.
armor is not a thing. there might be some armor that exists, but wearing it for prolonged periods will cause vigor rolls against fatigue at increasing penalties until you die of heat stroke after your 4th fatigue level "incapacitates you" so wearing armor is not going to be a common thing. this increases the lethality factor on both sides, upgrades the value of certain combat edges (like brawny, dodge, improved dodge, acrobat, fleet footed and quick) and raises the crippling penalty of certain major hindrances (like small)
it was ruled that i could make my character 5'1" and not have to take the small hindrance as long as she weighed at least 130 pounds. because of this, she can still have a petite figure without having to take the hindrance.
it was ruled that i didn't have to take the young hindrance if she were just a physically underdeveloped adult with a petite figure who plays the child act as a cover through clever use of costume choice, method acting, and makeup. but she had to at least take the attractive edge to represent either her preserved youth or at least good skincare. she also has to spend slightly more on her lifestyle budget to represent the extra cost of maintaining the persona.
Yakuza, Mafia, Triads and other gangs have contracts with the San Jose Cartels, because of this, other races exist, and even intermingle, and it was ruled i had to at least have a family member who was involved in one of them, so an Uncle in the Yakuza was fine.
the Steampunk Porcelain Doll look was approved. as long as it was modified to be practical for Assassination (i always make it that way, and usually go with school uniforms that are easy to move in, so Gothic Lolita Fashion could be modified in a similar manner. my first step is to remove the Goddamed Petticoats that restrict movement and my second is to shorten the skirt so it doesn't drag along the floor, i replace the high heels with a friggin pair of flats for easy running, i also remove as many pointless frills as i can, a few ruffles for texture is fine, and the covering of the legs can be fixed by stockings. assassins don't give a fuck about pantyshots. smart anime cliche style femme fatale assassins use pantyshots and the like to their advantage)
turns out a Femme Fatale is a Good fit for Tropicana according to my GM because he had Grand Theft Auto Vice City on his mind. and he considered the "Little Girl Act" a "Decent and interesting way to run a female assassin, even if it is a bit of an anime cliche." and well he said "every assassin has a gimmick or motif, a Japanese porcelain doll themed assassin would be fine with the Yakuza presence in San Jose." well, i found out that organized crime from everywhere is there.
he also told me that i would have to upkeep multiple identification cards, because entering a tavern, entering a strip club, or entering an R rated film would be difficult without an "adult" character present. meaning i would need to bring another PC to vouch for me on most missions.
i was also told that i have to partake in a "childish hobby" as "part of the cover". which is where Pokemon and a 3DS come in.

Where's the Ash from Evil Dead concept?
Also, dear fucking god the nuance in this character creation session.

I don't remember Ash playing Pokemon or being a steampunk porcelain doll.
It has been awhile since I watched Evil Dead though...my memory might be rusty.

it was a preliminary concept discussion rather than character creation. it isn't quite set in stone. steampunk porcelain doll is a fashion style, rather than the actual species.

indeciveness has struck me yet again.
i am trying too hard to fit a small girl into a role that isn't feasible for a small girl. but here is what i know
Armor isn't broadly Available
San Jose is a Country in South America that is booming in the Drug Trade with Gangs from all over the world having influence and also happens to be a major tourist spot. the gangs and the cartels tend to hire mercenaries and while the GM said GTA Vice City is a huge source of influence, i decided to look at Saints Row on Youtube because GTAVC is too hard to come by.
i need to simplify my concept, even if i need to rewrite it
all i have Established is the character is an adult female in her late teens or early twenties who happens to be 5'1"ish and plays the innocent role by acting immature, and combining clever use of clothing and makeup choice with method acting to seem younger.
i really don't know what skillsets would fit, or if i should just make her a tourist.
the GM wants everybody to start with Driving, Shooting, Streetwise and Persuasion. (not free skills, just skill taxes)
the character isn't finalized, we are discussing concepts before and after sessions of the current game, trying to get a good idea of the characters everybody will be playing.

i am trying too hard to fit a small girl into a role that isn't feasible for a small girl. I have to agree. It's like a bag of bricks, all you have to do is set it down. Play something different. Go out of your comfort zone. Roll up a hardboiled alcoholic cop whose divorce has him struggling to make alimony payments. Every so often his mother calls him and bangs on about who knows what, and his pistol has "kevin" engraved on it for some reason.
