I was just reviewing jazzisblues's post about learning agendas and principles. Does any particular PbtA game offer a better treatment of them than others? Like--assuming I can get on board with any genre of game--which one handles that part of them best? Hey zoomfarg. I'm not quite sure what you're asking. Do you want to know which PbtA game explains Agendas and Principles "the best", or which has "the best" examples of them? Although Agendas and Principles are different for each PbtA game, they all do the same thing; the Agendas are sort of your GMing goals, while the Principles are how you get there.

Hmmm I'm not quite sure, because I'm not that familiar with the system. I guess the one that explains them the best, or maybe the one that best demonstrates how to use them to run a good game.

Agendas and Principals are narrative concepts that guide your actions like a mission statement or code of honor.
I would pick the genre you are most familiar with and start from there. Often times the agendas and principals will be something like "Display a fantastic world" or "Be a fan of the characters". It takes a bit to remember them all and get used to asking yourself if your actions serve those agendas and principals.

Masks has very clear agendas and principals as well. Cheers, JiB

The section in the GM chapter of MASKS has pretty good overview:
Those are fairly standard Agendas, though they are different in every PbtA game, as every game is about something different. They're reminders for you to present the game like a comic book, to make the characters feel like superheroes by presenting appropriate situations, and to not keep things static. Most PbtA games have similar Agendas.
I won't list all the Principles in MASKS, as there's sixteen of them, but as noted above, they're the tools you use to meet your Agendas. They're things like:
The Principles of PbtA games are all radically different from each other (though there are some common ones), because again, the games are all about different things. Principles are things the GM should be aware of and highlight, because they reinforce what the game is about. They're kind of like best practices.
Most PbtA games have a paragraph or so after each Agenda and Principle explaining the thought process behind it, why it's important and how to use it in game.

As another example, The Warren sets out three agendas on page 50:
It then explains a bit more about each one (I'll only quote the first as an example):
Then it offers principles to the GM, to help them run a better game:
And again, here's an example of how the rules expand on each one:

There are some that I think are key to ANY pbta game. Here are just a couple of them.
Play to find out - We don't know what's going to happen until it happens Be a fan of the character - They are the story after all Be generous with truth - Because, why lie?
There are others.

Regardless of what PbtA system you choose, I strongly suggest reading "The Dungeon World Guide". You can download it here: www.dungeon-world.com/downloads/When I first started playing PbtA, I kept trying to play it like games that I was used to (D&D, Hero, GURPS, Savage Worlds and so on). After reading this, I began to understand how I needed to think differently about PbtA games. This has made PbtA games so awesome for me, breaking the old thinking in good ways. Success with a cost, soft vs. hard moves, GM moves, players make all the rolls, and so much more that has been discussed above. I've played and enjoyed Dungeon World, Spirit of 77, and Monster of the Week. If you want a fairly comprehensive list of Apocalypse World Hacks to choose from, there is a great list here: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1whsN3C5e31CZfo8hqlJbiKTPBX9kkCDSEG_An9FlP5s/edit#gid=0
