Stu Venable: If you are playing Diplomacy, pretty please do it LARP style where everyone comes in country attire! (and if you don't record it, please take some pictures!) FYI, just got off of a game of it on www.backstabbr.com (online Diplomacy play... I highly recommend it). Here's an image from when I, as Germany, was about to finally die out:

The Hosts (chiefly Stu) keeping asking the question "Do you think that XYZ will be in the Ready Player One Movie" and speculating about licensing rights. Watch the newest trailer and I'm pretty sure it'll be clear there were some differences with properties used in the movie as opposed to the book.
Now, that being said, I do think that the Tomb of Horrors will be in the movie. But if you remember the tomb from the book it took a whole three paragraphs to get through the tomb and get to the challenge, so I don't see it being a long crawl through nostalgia.
My worry is that they're going to ruin the flow of the book in the movie. Characters meeting their real world counter parts throughout the movie and reveals being made without the significance that was in the book in lieu of "let's do all the action bits!".
What I don't see showing up in the movie is the late book stuff with IOI and the Sixers. There's just too much hand waving that would need to happen for it to make sense in movie form.

stork I've been working on a Riverdale and Batman Monsterhearts pregens for a while, so of you do want to play sexy teenish Archie comics but secretly monsters. I can hook you up. Re: Ready Player One. Here's hoping the movie makes the main character likable. Cause he's absolute garbage trash Gary Stu in the worst possible ways.

Dude, Stu, Toby Kebbell (Durotan in "Warcraft", Messala Severus in "Ben-Hur", motherfucking "Rock'N'Rolla") in Kong Skull Island helped with the facial acting of Kong along with the guy doing the mocap for Kong, Terry Notary. So they both got a credit for being Kong. Toby went on to be Koba in "War for the Planet of the Apes".
He's also a really cool guy in real life.

I think I might get distracted by backstabbr for quite some time.... Best part of it? You can play "Press" (aka the Diplomacy phase) all via missives from one country to the other:

As much as I'd love to give Diplomacy a shot, I suffered through a summer (literally every night, 2-4 hours) of the OLD Civilization board game... where no military victory was allowed or even mentioned in the rules and you could only win by trading enough to move up the cultural chart. Ugh. No thanks. Stu, you might be interested in the National Security Decision Making Game. dailydragon.dragoncon.org/2015/what-is-the-nsdm-game-an-interview-with-capt-mark-mcdonagh/It's basically a world larp. Largest game recorded is 82 players. You divide up as nations - cells of 10 to 25 PLAYERS - and just... roleplay. So, one player in a faction will be President of the US, one is one of the Joint Chiefs, one is the head of the Senate etc.

Diplomacy is NOT Civilization. There are definite victory conditions, and the way we played it, any two or three nations could declare victory if they held enough supply centers.
We're trying to put together a Saturday Diplomacy game, and we'll stream it.
And even though I prefer to play Turkey, I kinda want to play England, so I can portray Queen Victoria and say "We are not amused" a lot.
Turkey and England are in similar situations, strategically, but, DAMN!, fleet are terribly limiting.

I remember watching Johnny Sokko and His Flying Robot as a kid though my favorite was one called Battle of the Giants. Kid had a whistle and could summon these three robots with it. I think the largest one was gold and fought other large things a la Voltron. I know all three robots could transform into rockets and the bad guys were called Lugo Men.
