During the episode the topic of hockey cheerleaders was brought up. The Syracuse Crunch (AHL team) as well as other teams do have cheerleaders. They tend to make their way through the crowd more so than going out on the ice. Here is a link to their facebook page- www.facebook.com/pages/Syracuse-Crunch-Ice-Girls/123344405272

@Kimi, About Player Knowledge…
You had a player/character with a misconceived notion about metal (lead) and electrical conductivity. You asked at what point do you (the GM) correct the player/character misconception.
I want to go out on a limb and chip in my answer because it expresses my controversial GM style. I do not go into a game with a big meta wall between player and the player’s character knowledge. This wall interferes with player engrossment same as watching an episode of Star Trek with someone nit picking “that would never happen in real physics.” Sorry did I say nit picking? I meant complaining and, worse, whining. Sometimes, what a character learns is also what a player learns (hence the gold of a GM with a good liberal arts background). Yes, this is despite a character having God-like intelligence but also the reverse: the genius player vs the low ability score character.* Meta walls immediately go up only in my game when a player is privy to knowledge heard at the table when his character is absent. But if a player is a chemist then his character will be played with some knowledge of chemistry bleed, and there is nothing wrong with that. A player or his character can invent gunpowder or the hydrogen bomb. It does not mean it will work in a fantasy world protected by Norse Gods/GM.
WoW will have something to say on trust issues. Really, you do not want to watch Star Trek with one of those guys. Imagination is not for the tepid role-player.
So you have a player and his character at odds with your world’s/your conception of physics. Metal conduct electricity. If the character has a higher intelligence stat than the player, it is obvious to me that the character was duped in the sale of the goods – as in: this is not the metal you were looking for. If the character has a lower intelligence stat than the player, well, it is all good then. Chalk it up to role-playing and let the chips fall where the hilarity will be the greatest.
The real question is how to inject the education of the player into his character’s story without igniting a cold (or heated) debate about metals, lead and electrical conductivity. No one like a pedantic lecture but we all remember great teachers. This teaching is your challenge with the player AND his character. You are blessed with being in control of your world. I would not let it go because that would be disingenuous to you, your world and your game/players.
So the lead suit saved the character from being electrocuted? Well, have you ever had a salesman sell you something you specifically did not ask for but were seeking? You say you want a lead suit but you want the suit to prevent electrical conductivity? Well, why lead and not gold, a salesman might ask. I have just the thing! The latest from China… and if the player/character does not check the label to learn the suit is not actually made from lead, let the player enjoy their fantasy. But when they are saved from certain death and the table or the player asks, just respond, did you ever look at the label of your suit?
Seems the haberdasher sold you what you wanted and not necessarily what you asked for. This time, it worked in the player’s (and character’s) favour and the one with the lower intelligence stat went up a level.
How shitty it would be, even antithetical to RPGs, if everyone meta gamed, knew the same things to the same degree and never had an ah ha! (or oh shit!) moment at the game table. The old school non-meta-wall between players and characters is pure form role-playing, referenced incorrectly as “rules lite.” I fart in the general direction of Monopoly analogies to RPGs because, like elderberries and hamsters, the correlation is to apples and oranges. It’s not about rules but what players bring (and take away from) a game.
=== === === *Some people may be shocked to discover that an intelligent player who scores his character’s Intelligence Ability Score low is –generally– interested in playing that ability as the dump stat. Or he wants that particular low ability score character killed early to return to character generation. In my experience, arguments usually occur when the character has higher intelligence than its player rather than the other way around, exacerbated by lazy role-playing players (GM, individual player, or in concert).

I got excited when Stu said he wanted to run a GURPS Fantasy Google+ game on Saturdays. Then he said probably for new GURPS players. Then my excitement waned. No worries though. I am a believer in the Google+ role playing. I hope that he gets to run the game. It will be fun for the new players.
I plan on running a game when I get settled.
Stu, if you are a player short and you want a min-max fighter that does 3d swing damage or a wizard with Apportation let me know. (I can play regular characters too.)

It would be fun to run a game for some GURPS veterans too... hmm...

I'm throwing my name into the hat for that G+ GURPS game. I've never played GURPS, I want to give it a try, I'm curious to see how to run games on G+, and I'm free on Sunday afternoons (Saturday evening Cali time). ;D

I currently have no mic or I would try to get in on this newbie GURPs game. Mikes are cheap, rickno. You can snag an entirely adequate computer mike for about $10 at Wally World.

Uh oh. Do we need to email our desire to play to Stu as well? No idea. For all I know he may be looking at this forum and a bunch of new emails and wondering "why did I say that on the air?"

I'm still doing game prep, so I'm not to the point where I'm looking for players yet.

Thanks for reading my e-mail on the show. (It was the last one on). The game I am supposed to join is on a break while people go on vacations with their families. I hope it starts up again, but in case it doesn't I have posted on the forum looking for another game in my area. Until then I will work on my entries for the epic contest. I am going to get back in this hobby if I got to pry the bitch open with a crow bar.

So, I'm listening at work when it comes to the email about sending wave after wave of cats at the players in the Ravenloft game. I completely lost it when you guys took the email literally and were yelling "And then Fluffy! Mrrrrow! And Patches!" Damn, I needed that today but I just freaked the hell out of the guy in the next cubicle, especially when I mumbled "sorry, they're hurling cats". What the hell. Keep 'em guessing.
