Thanks for reading my email. Hopefully they heed my warning.
I'm not mad you edited my email. I read what I sent originally, and I must have been so enraged I wrote a bunch of crazy shit in the P.S. section. The only thing though, you edited out my only question in the email!!! And, it was a pretty good question. . . .. . I'm curious as to why it was ignored. Maybe because you don't want to meet me? I mean . . . . . . I look in the mirror and I'm disappointed in who I see every morning, so I can sympathize.
the question was:
"Now that I'm making a bit more money, I'm thinking about planning to attend a con in the future. This would be a bit expensive for me, as I would be traveling from New York. If I had to pick one con to attend to see all of you and play in your games, which con should I pick?"
Also, cuntaculous is an original creation. I usually pair it with fucktards. I find that cuntaculous fucktards roles so smoothly through my mouth hole.
It was NOT an embellishment. I copy and pasted the text. I didn't type an additional word. The reason that nobody remembered it was because Stork was reading it and he yelled it and slurred all the words, and Stu talked over him while saying it. I didn't even understand it myself the first time I heard it. I had to go back and read my email.
Good podcast gang! Can't wait for the next ones!

As I read this, I thought to myself, "no. I didn't edit this email at all. WTF's he talking about."
So I went to the original email, and lo! and behold, your email -- sans the PSs -- fits exactly in my browser window. I copied and pasted it without even knowing the PSs were there.
My fuck up.
To answer your question -- September con -- ie Gateway 2013 -- on Labor Day Weekend will likely have the full compliment of hosts. For us Faire-going types, it's the big one.

Not sure if it was because of the feed update, but I had to delete my old subscription in the iTunes Podcast player app and resubscribe in order to get this episode.
Just an FYI in case anyone has the same issue.

To add onto what Stu said, the biggest complement from the community is at Gateway (Septembercon) followed by OrcCon (February) and finally GameX (Forgotten con by all the Faireites) I go to all 3 but then I'm not tearing down Faire that Saturday. Cheers, JiB

Sheesh, a little tough on contractors during the kickstarter segment. As a contractor myself I offer this piece of advice, go with the expensive guy who has the great references. That guy you think you are going to save a couple bucks with is likely gonna lead to that poor experience.
While there are certainly loads of crappy contractors out there, there are also real craftsmen as well who take pride in their work and put customer service first. We're just not cheap.

I've only had dealing with two contractors.
The first was awesome and he was done with a fairly big project within a week or so of his promise date.
The second was a nightmare.
Neither was cheap. I think the biggest indication of quality is how long you have to wait for them to begin. The first guy told us he couldn't start for several months -- and he was right. But once he started, they were on it until it was finished.

Yeah, wait time isn't a bad indicator. Also a lot of the best residential contractors don't advertise and don't do bid work. Asking around to friends and coworkers is a good way to find good people. Also if you do find a guy you like and you need more work later of a different type, feel free to ask him if you knows someone (e.g. ask your carpenter for a painter). Usually good contractors know other good contractors and are happy to recommend them.

350.00 $ roundtrip from Anchorage!?!? I've never seen it that cheap!
When do signups for the Great Conjunction Con begin ?
Now all we need is a bunch of C-Teamers and some mad Brits to make the hop and the earth will really crack open and The End of Days Will Be Upon US!

well . . . . I can't make it this year. A fuck ton of people are getting married and I have to fly all over the fuckin place. I will be poor by Christmas. I'm looking towards next year personally.
One quick thing though . . . . . I'm convinced that something was being done wrong in your 4E game Stu.
I don't remember if it was 5 or 6 or 7 level 9 players that went up against an equal amount of elites??? The fact that the PC's won that fight means that some math or something was being done wrong. It should have been complete annihilation of the PC's. The math is so one sided at that point, unless the monsters laid down on the ground and asked for death, tactics shouldn't have come into the picture that much.
Also, specifically to the email that talked about lvl 4 PC's fighting a lvl 16 monster. A lvl 16 monster will have defenses around 30. A munchkined lvl 4 striker will have an attack bonus around 10 (maybe a couple points more). So, it will be rare when the lvl 4 character hits. Also, a level 16 monster will be dealing double digit damage at that point. 3 or 4 hits, and a 4th level PC is done. That fight in the email is lopsided as shit, and not even coming close to what the extreme balance of 4E recommends. That DM is fuckin up.

Yes, jfever gets to the heart of my concern over the “no wrong way to play” shibboleth with this.
Was it fun for the players? I am going to say that is irrelevant to my concern for the hobby. And I am not agreeing with jfever’s math argument or criticizing any specific’s on any one’s game (**CENSORED**). “The DM is fuckin up” is a matter of **CENSORED** player taste, after all. And on that count, per game/group, if it is not fun you’re doing it wrong is okay (I guess). But what is the good DM/GM’s baseline here? What is the strong foundation for new GMs to build upon? Is it a reflection of fear in never finding a group? Is it contained in level appropriate Challenge Ratings? Is it Rules As Written? Is it a game/system ingratiating itself to the players? Is it reflected in the wistful nostalgia of groups past? Is our GM style so tied to factors that are outside of his or her control? Is character death a matter to decide for the Mary Sue’s player; the players’ impartial GM; or the statistical probabilities loaded into the system?
This certainly has a broader application. The hobby cannot grow when it is going in all directions. It can bloat up, but not grow up.
What does the hobby stand for? Are the characteristics of each role-playing game/system so unique that the hobby needs niche categories to further break down the category into segments of itself? Maybe. Certainly moving over a category, broadening RPGs appeal into video game entertainment, is not a wise direction.
The truism goes: Being all things to everyone becomes nothing to anyone. It’s like seeking approval so badly that the effort becomes what we are. We have to be okay with being ourselves (first) and accept that some people will get off the bus. And that is okay. And we have to be okay with that. Our hobby will not capture the hearts and minds of video gamers if we can just build a wholly codified system, for example. We will not appease the religious extremists by removing magic from D&D. We will not grow the hobby by welcoming the anti-social, supposing we decide the hobby core is social activity rather than stream of personified calculations or poorly written fanfic.
There is definitely a wrong way. (And I am just grappling with this understanding myself.) But when so many imaginative and creative people are turned off from players, and such anecdotes are contained even within our hobby-specific humour, it seems obvious. Doesn’t it to you? Or is the problem that people lack the imagination and creativity they used to have before colour television?
Maybe we need to begin with defining the few negatives before we can move on to accepting all the many positives? And then we have to embrace both as being within the hobby, and work on removing the negative outside the hobby…? Discrimination is not a dirty word.
OH, and **CENSORED** means 1) respect for the GM player and 2) an end to munchkinism. It is a restatement of Rule Zero. I am grappling for more such functional, positive statements.
[edit: a broadcast eMail from the Pathfinder game I attend that pretty well says it: everyone having fun “doing it right” but "you're doing it wrong" still - written by the guy I palmed off to the ITALIAN, if you remember my dilemma I posted back in the fall about recruiting him and asking for advice how to get rid of him so as not to spoil my game….]
Oh on another note... a small excerpt from the Summoner rules...
Starting at 1st level, a summoner can cast summon monster I as a spell-like ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + his Charisma modifier. Drawing upon this ability uses up the same power as the summoner uses to call his eidolon. As a result, he can only use this ability when his eidolon is not summoned. He can cast this spell as a STANDARD action and the creatures remain for 1 minute per level (instead of 1 round per level). At 3rd level, and every 2 levels thereafter, the power of this ability increases by one spell level, allowing him to summon more powerful creatures (to a maximum of summon monster IX at 17th level). At 19th level, this ability can be used as gate or summon monster IX
OOPS We've been playing it wrong. I guess my character let the wizard die on purpose O.o. So the monster SHOULD come into play immediately after. Also, it sticks around for 6 minutes now instead of just 6 rounds.... Egad the differences this could make!
