No FATE dice? Grab a handful of d6s and a Sharpie.

I wish we could have appended this thread as HJRPG1011: A Very Special FATAL Episode. I'm imagining that somewhere in England a haggard, Friday night/Saturday morning drunken passed out ex-pat aussie is smiling through wine soaked breaths, and just doesn't know why...Coming soon... FATAL TRAVELLER: THE DOCKING. FATAL WWF: TAG TEAM! FATAL L5R: OH THE TENTACLES! FATAL DUNGEON WORLD: THE UNSHAVEN. FATAL SAVAGE WORLDS: THE SHAKEN AND THE EXPLODING. FATAL FATE: "GRAB A HANDFULL..." And just 'cuz I love a good image post: FATAL DND: THE NAUGHTY BITS. I just want to do my part to keep the Madam President of the Forums happy...

Greatwyrm: Great idea! I may grab a dry erase marker and do just that if I get into a pinch (so I don't permanently deface my Hero D6s). However, I think I'll have enough Fate dice to go around for my games, especially because I know most of my players will be coming in with enough for themselves, at least. I was more or less just lamenting that my shipment of gorgeous Kickstarter Fate Dice won't make it in time for this Con.

OMG. I'm still watching the podcast : how?!? I mean FATAL, the basement dwelling rapiness aside, is unplayable as a system. So unplayable that I've finally convinced myself that author isn't a sick puppy but a comedic piss artist. Aaron

So trying to work out if my headphones are playing up or not but am I the only one hearing a fair amount of background static on this episode?
The comment from the chat room about the L5R characters only just coming into their own: I think part of that is that they started as pregens, it always takes a few sessions to get into character but this time the players were also having to work out how to play a character somebody else had written which makes the process even longer.

The sound quality during the live hangout seemed good. Its a rather fun addition to be able to actually watch these nut jobs. Although a bit "stalkery" in nature. Yeah the L5R comment was from me and I totally agree. When you get handed a pre-gen in a totally new system its not the easiest to decide what direction you want to take the character. Now as the group starts to solidify its been increasingly fun for me to see the effect these personalities have on the story. Having said that, I do understand that if theres a story the GM wants to tell and it gets to the end of that story arc...END THE GAME. Or at least take a break...especially if one of the PCs dies I think the big issue many people are having (thats actually a non-issue) but I am dealing with it as well is something they discussed on a recent Fear the Boot...that being campaign length. (not girth) Many of us come from a background of MASSIVE years long campaigns (when we had a lot more time to fuck around with) add a hefty dollop of nostalgia onto that... You get the EPIC campaign fun chaser, "Oh shit if we could only have another world sweeping Masks of Nyarlothotep style, two year long campaign." The Inukai L5R campaign has now run 11 sessions, that's pretty damn good for a group of adults with often very divergent schedules. Sir Guido's L5R campaign is at what 12? (after party wine soaked fuzz is not helping my math recall). We don't even all live on the same continent! But, there is an element of 'high art' that comes into games that go the distance. When the world and the cast of characters becomes incredibly rich and detailed, story threads become so intertwined and convoluted that the game starts to really take on a life of its own; live and breathe. Just like any really good episodic form of fiction: television, comics, radio drama...the listener (and in RPGs case the players) get increasingly drawn into this world and the big "I" word IMMERSION becomes increasingly more potent and tangible. And as Hoiserob questioned if the L5R game wasn't an AP would they still be playing ? My thought on that is so many of us GMs want at least one of our games to have a LOOOONG sweeping campaign arc. That isn't always easy to obtain. Having an AP to go back to, much like the RPG podcast are great tools to point the way to achieving this goal. So, yeah "if that's just how the story goes..." then by all means. I just am enjoying seeing some really gifted roleplayers have the TIME and SPACE to settle into interesting characters and a kick ass story line. Geez, I do ramble...

Just because I was commenting on stork's hair doesn't make me a stalker! Oh no sir that was all me...the 'fishbowl' aspect of the live feed was quite fun but the "I see you but you can't see me, but you get to read my comments" was at times bizarre.

Hey! My letter about that Gygax quote was the starting point for another topic. Excellent. Just take anything out of AD&D and you have a conversation, since everyone has an opinion about it.
BTW, I think Gary was quite fat at the end of his life. I wouldn't call him a hippy, though.

I'm going to disagree with something stork said. I know. Shocking, right? Around the 30 minute mark while you guys are still discussing encumberance, he says something about (and I'm paraphrasing here) "being a dick GM because "You want to run away, but you're really exhausted from carrying eight sets of platemail'..." Sorry, but fuck that. I'm not being a dick GM by telling a player they are slowed down when they try to run away because they're carrying eight sets of platemail. I'm sure it was just an off the cuff comment, but it bugged me. P.S. - Looking forward to having stork tell me off at Gateway 2013.

I've got a beef with the explicit content warning at the beginning of the podcast. It was funny the first time I heard it, but it sounds really defensive and aggressive. I kind of cringe when I think of a first time listener hearing it, and is saying you don't want any 1 star ratings actually going to prevent any 1 star ratings?
Maybe I'm being too sensitive, but it's been bugging me a while.

The noise you were probably hearing was the air conditioner. Since we had five hosts, there were five mics out, so that's one more mic picking up the AC in the background.
That would be my guess.

Is the disclaimer going to prevent 1-star reviews? Who knows. But in my opinion, the disclaimer tells new listeners exactly what they're in store for; the show has crude humor and bodily functions, and if you don't like that stuff, go listen to another podcast. Or stick it out and listen, but if you then complain about not liking the show, well you can eat it because you were told up front exactly what you were getting into. I actually miss the "Hear that, Canada?" closer. I think it'd be hilarious to call out a different country every time. Of course that'd mean Stu Venable would have to make a separate bumper for each country...

I just got to the feedback loop discussion about 1h50m. I couldn't agree more. That's really the thing that's been hardest for me when I had to move to online gaming. Even though I've played with many of these players for years, not being able to see if they were engaged or not was really tough.
