Probie Tim, do you know how Stu will explain Skully's absence? Or is that a secret?

Probie Tim, do you know how Stu will explain Skully's absence? Or is that a secret? No idea yet. We've exchanged a couple of ideas, but nothing concrete. I told him that while I don't want to set the expectation of a return to the game, I'd rather not see Skully become some big bad guy or something which would prohibit me playing him again. But ultimately, I'm out of the game.

Part of the secret of the PbtA engine is that you need the players input to keep things running, otherwise the improv machine runs out of gas. I would so very much like to see a conversation about a non PbtA game where PbtA was NOT brought up. Why? You all seemed happy enough to have the old bar owner become a witch, which is exactly this principle in action. Is it just that it's annoying to hear PbtA all the time? I mean, I get it. Its not exactly anything new, but it is packaged and delivered for/to a wider audience. Not many games do a good job of telling you how to run them. Hence why the internet was such a boon, allowing GM's to meet up and discuss all their tips and tricks. All PbtA did was work to internalize a lot of those improv tricks. For those of us who had never got the memo it was a revelation. I mean, there is nearly nothing that is truely new these days. But there has to be something to PbtA, given that its able to reach people with ideas that had never previously reached them. Its almost like the rpg supervirus: no one is safe!

Probie Tim , do you know how Stu will explain Skully's absence? Or is that a secret? Baba Yaga. It's always Baba Yaga. Baba Yaga got hers back in 2000. It's the Nictuku that are the Nosferatu boogie man.

Well, yes. But Baba Yaga is both infinitely more fun to say, and people not fully immersed in V:TM lore might enjoy the joke.

Is it just that it's annoying to hear PbtA all the time? Yes. PbtA is NOT the end-all, be-all system. The more it gets mentioned - especially in threads that aren't about it - the more some people get pushed away from it. For those of us who had never got the memo it was a revelation. Awesome. That is great for you; I truly mean that, I'm not being sarcastic or anything. But it's not a religion; you don't have to proselytize, and it's OK to not shove the memo in everyone's face. I mean, there is nearly nothing that is truely new these days. Exactly. You mentioned the witch... if you think that GMs like Stu didn't do stuff like what's in PbtA for years and years before PbtA came along, I can't tell you how wrong you are. It is nothing new. If you'd like to discuss this further, let's start another thread somewhere else and I'll be happy to keep the discussion going. But this thread is not about PbtA, and so this discussion should not be here. This thread is about Vampire: the Masquerade, the Mote of Sin, and Skully Wallace - a Vampire: the Masquerade character in the Mote of Sin.

TBH, if you reslly wanna light a fire under the Moties' asses, have another Vamp come to the island while theyre gone to Pornvale, and declare Praxis. That should fuel some game time while Adriann and crew try to wrest control back, Stu Venable.

Caveat: At this moment, I'm listening to ep. 27 so I haven't seen how this pans out yet, and I have already had the Prince's fate spoiled for me by the weekly HJRPG pronouncement. I would agree with this, but for one thing: The players are rarely reactive or proactive. When the Sabbat incursion happened, I had to practically BEG them to go after them. The spinning plates is out of desperation to make something happen. Tim is the only one who's "fought back against my interference," because he's the only one who'd be proactive. It's a relief when Tim does that. THAT'S the game I'd prefer to run. I feed them a plot hook, they table it. So I give them another. I'm not sure what else to do. I gave them the opportunity to expand their territory. Did they do it? Nope. I reveal to them that someone (Sebastien) is surveilling them. Once they find out who's behind it, do they take it out? Nope. Reilly wants to throw parties. Adrienne wants to make a lot of money. I don't see how those things become interesting if I don't have outsiders interfere with it. I look at Mote of Sin like a weekly TV show, something like Supernatural or Person of Interest, where the weekly plot is where we hang the character interaction. They're reactive, not proactive; they need something to investigate, and it has to be clear — but what I really want to see is how the vampires are interacting with each other. Skully, in all seriousness, was central to this kind of drama. His ongoing passive-aggressive feud with Albert was the stuff of legend. Getting Adrienne and Reilly to pal around against a common "enemy" instead of be at each others' throats was huge. I knew from the moment that Skully became surly and diablerized a vampire left in his care that we were going to be in for fireworks.

I'm not bothered by the group's reactive nature. It seems like they are taking forever to deal with some things, but only a night or two passes with each episode. If they were just sitting around drinking and responding to the chat the entire time, it would be boring listening, but the players and Stu do a lot of great RP as they gradually make progress. They're like a dysfunctional government.
BUT, to keep the pressure on, I suppose Stu could start each session with a reminder about the existing known threats to supplement Sam's entertaining summaries. Maybe the players are just forgetting.

Shouldn't Riley (sp?) be spending a Willpower every time she tries to read an undead mind? (p137)
If she has been she must have a boatload of willpower.
