Wow, consider the idea stolen.
That sounds like a great way to get the required cooperation while throwing in the random bits to make the PCs "accidentally" kill each other.

I have the same problem. I love the books and desperately want to run a game, but I can't even think of the first step in running a game.

This seems like a good time to make my first post on the board.
Let me start off by saying I have never played in a con pen and paper game before. I was always worried that the other players would be the stereotypical mouth breathers or that I would be unable to hold my own within the game.
I was lucky enough to play in three Happy Jacks games and I had a complete blast. First up was Stu's GURPS game which was full of amazing role players. Everyone jumped right into their characters from the start and it made for really fun and fast paced game. Stu really got into the characters of the GM to the point where he threw coffee on the players when acting as a beggar.
The second game was Stork and CADave's Phreque Show Savage Worlds game. The world and the characters they created showed they had put a lot of time and love into them. Everyone had a great character with unique and interesting powers. I randomly picked the illustrated man who had the ability to gain power from his tattoos. They would give him abilities based on the animal. While in bear and panther form he was a bad ass fighter, but I could not roll to save my life. Bill stole the show as the Dog-faced Man, but everyone was great.
The final game was JiB's fantasy HERO game. I chose an assassin character that I felt would be the type of person that was generally quiet and was more concerned with getting the job done than how it was executed, which was a bad choice on my part since the first half of the game was all about the plan of attack and contingency plans. Once we got inside and the Dwarf started dying shit started to get real. It was a fun game all the way through, just listening to some of the crazy schemes thought up to attack the tower made my day. Any time there is an argument for hiring an orphan army to siege a tower, or the option of getting the wizard out of the tower by putting one end of a teleport portal over his tower and the other end under the toilet seat makes for a great game.
The rest of Sunday I spent in the board gaming area trying to learn how to play a bunch of games I already own.
The con as a whole was a great time. I met a number of great people and all the games were awesome. Now I'm just concerned that any other con games I play won't live up to the Happy Jacks games.
