Ok I have some idea of how you could do this - but I'd like to keave the specifics for the session.
I guess if the hand is exactly like a normal hand in function and effectiveness - it's gonna be zero points. But if it incorporates tools or needs regular maintenance then we can work through the specifics.
As an idea, how would you feel about a clockwork "dock" that you could attach various tools/gadgets to? The surgically attached dock is wound up and powers the attachment.... just throwing ideas out.

I really would like to see more of these discussions occurring on HJ forums. Here we are breaking down character gen, system etc...building the world and then it will be translated into an AP. That for me is an incredibly useful tool. I also think it will allow for "guest" players who want to see what the game is about. Stu Venable ? speaking of incredibly useful tools...I was thinking of taking the one arm/hand disad due to loss by frostbite...but then acquiring a clockwork replacement. I was looking in the GURPS Steampunk book and haven't quite figured out how to create this ? Like malifer (munchkin) . I am putting together a "list" that will build off of Vitus's backstory. Finally the dirigibles in the Steampunk book are pretty scant. They leap from hot air balloons to great battle air dreadnoughts. How do you see them in the world ? Like faster steam ships/ocean liners or even more advanced akin to early commercial air flights ? Travel for just the rich ? Or the masses ? If you are just looking for inspiration (I know maxinstuff doesn't want us to go into the deep end. but we're nerds) There are the GURPS Castle Falkenstein books. Which are supposed to be Steam tech fantasy.

As for airships - they are used mainly as "fast" longer distance transportation between cities over land or sea. Availability is similar to modern aircraft - limited. Very rich people might have a private airship. The crazy ex-military pilot might have a small disused one is his yard. Remember though that very small ones are more like balloons. They don't hold enough gas to lift a rigid frame well. And rigid airships are difficult to store (because you can't deflate it like a balloon).
Their use in military is mostly restricted to use as high altitude recon, logistics, and by high ranking officers who demand a birds eye view of the battle. Actual combat is mostly avoided if you're in an airship, seeing as they are full of hydrogen. Except for sky-pirates who are crazy.
Heavier than air flight is experimental only at this point (the wright brothers flight was about 1910 I think).

How long is the GURPS combat round again? 1 second. So you can put six bullets in the air in two seconds? From a revolver? That seems.... incorrect to me. Is that via some sort of special maneuver? Or is that just standard shooting? Now, I'll happily cop to being a complete layman to firearms.....

Now, I'll happily cop to being a complete layman to firearms..... 3 shots in a seconds seems like it would be the limit by fanning the hammer or whatever. Its also less accurate shooting that fast (you need a larger and larger margin of success for successive bullets to hit).

*mandatory quote* TWOOOOOO DAAAAAAYS! */mandatory quote* So her's the plan - We will generate characters fast. Let's not over-engineer things. We'll do it with group input. Everyone feel free to chime in on other people's characters if they are stuck. Again, this should help speed things along. You can revise your character later if you like. I'll leave it open for adjustments for at least the first few sessions. And if we can get characters done in a timely fashion, we'll do a practicr combat, and everyone can get the fear of guns instilled in them

Excellent! Now to sit down and actually answer some character background stuff...like how I got syphilis, and why I've got a gear stuck in my skull...and why do I always smell of cheese??

You meet in a tavern...
I don't want to put the kibosh Eric's first game prep, but do we want to work out in any background stuff pre-game?

Pints do you guys want to figure anything out or start as fresh strangers? Current cliff notes for Clayton is he was a rancher then a U.S. Marshal. So anything state side is easy for me to justify. Other than that after the receipt of the letter Clayton traveled to England is renting a room from a nice old Widow in a bad part of town. He's been getting a feel for London and it's people.

Then when you arrive it makes sense you would group up as you've already met.

I'm cool with building the character connections right here. If we are hoping to create some kind of AP I think putting our character ideas on the forums is an interesting part of sharing the game with the community. We of course can also just do it via Obsidian Portal if thats how you'd like to see it done.
I really like the idea of doing some character tying in using the "series of tubes". Does Clayton walk around all shiny and white hatted ? Because Vitus would definitely notice him...whereas he tends to resemble a lump of coal these days. Save for the hissing clouds of steam being emitted from his portable heating/pneumatic gun/jack hammer/power washer pack. Perhaps you helped me with some "dwarf haters?" who don't want short, stumpy foreigners taking there jobs? I also probably spend a fare amount of time just staring up into the sky as the dirigibles pass gawping...
