For the record it sounds less like a Slayer concert and more like GWAR.

I've had to use a dressing room the night after a GWAR concert (shudder).

Out of the Silent Planet doesn't get much mention these days. That was kind of cool. One of my all time favorite books.
Were there days that it did it ever get much mention?

I've had to use a dressing room the night after a GWAR concert (shudder). There is very few things in life as fun as a GWAR show. Nothing quite like getting sprayed in the face with gallons of blood from giant utters strapped to front of a guy with a huge battle axe. Or gallons of miscellaneous goo from a huge disembodied alien phallus. So fucking rad. RIP Oderous.

Just finished listening. Great show! I will now focus on a single insignificant tangent that came up because I am a rabid Doctor Who fan. I should probably mention that I fully understand that thinking people would watch the entirety of classic Doctor Who before looking at the new series is utterly insane. And yet, there's always that little voice in my head. The one that, when I see someone getting into the new show without having seen the old one, has that same reaction that a lot of die-hard Star Wars fans have when they hear someone say they want to start with Episode I. (By the way, if anyone wants to try climbing the Mount Kilimanjaro that is the original Doctor Who series, I heartily recommend reading this blog along with it: wifeinspace.com/ It makes the journey much more bearable and helps one take off the fan glasses and look at the shows in a somewhat more even-handed light. Like any long-running show, it has good episodes and bad episodes.) Incidentally, I love The War Games, but for the sake of all that is unholy, NEVER try to watch it all at once. The last time I watched it was in half-hour chunks over a couple of weeks. Much easier that way. They were also right to stop before the 6th Doctor came on. The actor (Colin Baker) might have turned out okay if he'd had good scripts... and good directors... and a good producer... so basically, ANYTHING good to help out, but unfortunately he didn't and that kind of began the downward spiral that led to the original show's demise (though it DID get a lot better by the end of the 7th Doctor's era, but sadly it was too late). Actually, I'm kind of worried that's happening again with the new series, but best not to open that particular can of worms... especially as it may involve spoilers.

I intend to relisten to the episode again but heres what I've got. Great accent, Stu couldn't understand a word but that sounded pretty clear to me! To answer your question no I did not experience a pyrotechnic display go wrong, but I'm a fan of Metalocalypse. NPC-Pickup is a great term for that exact thing I've been trying to describe to others, a clear delineation between that and a DMNPC. The golden rule as always is it's about the players, it's what really defines the difference. You guys said you had to drop a character because they kept going to them for answers, I did that exact thing. My players were in this desert city and kept just waiting for the NPC to do something, so I had him steal supplies and run off in the night while they slept! Turns out that was enough for them to off-handedly search for him in the hopes of revenge, now he's a secret villain hahahah!

For the record it sounds less like a Slayer concert and more like GWAR. A friend I work with played for The Good Guys and shared a rehearsal space with GWAR around the time they built "the slave pit." Man, that stunk!!!! The guys from GWAR were cool though. And, yes, they were as blown away as anyone that they got PAID to do what they do. I enjoyed the Ladies de'LARP they are fun and insightful. Always good guests. Muddyboots

funny how the pitch and speed of Twin's speech pattern increased about 15 minutes after the coffee arrived. After that, the episode contained about twice as much info than normal.

A few things:
Watching War Games back to back starting late at night is like running a marathon as part of some kind of longer race.
I love those early Dr. Who episodes for three reasons:
Great ideas, and usually pretty good writing, (Especially the first three; I have stolen many an idea for a game) Watching how the production people produce big sci-if ideas with basically 0 budget Cliff-hangers
On the CDs you can watch the episodes back-to-back, I'm assuming that is what happened, the problem is that when they smash them together in one entire 2 hour showing, or in War Game's case 5 hour show, it turns the the whole thing into applesauce. Each of those shows is structured to be semi-self contained and end on a cliff hanger. Their structure collapses when the logical breaks are removed, without the breaks may seem long and repetitive and poorly written.

Yep, I remember in the Tom Baker days being at school and discussing 'how will they get out of that' or 'WTF will happen next'. No internets then, so no spoilers - we had wait. The 'Key of Time' season provoked a lot of lunch break discussions as moved along. The black guardian pretending to be the white guardian from the start was an unexpected curve ball (at that time and age). Then their was the 'The Talon of Weng Chun' and 'The pyramid of Mars' . . . All very exciting cliff hanger episodes that lose a little in translation when watched back to back. Aaron

Thing is, the old and new series are different enough in style, tone, themes, and assumptions that a person who likes one isn't guaranteed to like the other. A comment which may also apply to Star Wars, come to think of it.
