Did you see it yet?
I loved it. Hit all the right notes. Saw it with my brother. My wife suggested we re-watch all 6 throughout Christmas break and then take the family to go see VII. I said OK!

Saw it this afternoon with my kids. Wife wasn't interested. I think it was pretty darn good.

Thank the Force. It wasn't shit!!! Good enough to almost wipe the prequels from memory.
(The best bit was when the Gungans and Ewoks united to beat the Frst Order in a dance-off)

I said it elsewhere, but I say it again here... The feeling I had coming out of Star Wars at 41 years old was pretty much the same feeling (as far as I can remember) that I had coming out of Star Wars at 7.
They did total justice to all the old characters (Han, Leia, Chewie, C3PO, R2D2), great acting from the newbs, and lots of subtle yet awesome stuff going on throughout.
Best movie ever? Hardly. Elevates the saga? Yes.

It was perfect. I have a list of bullet points of what I want out of a pulp sci-fi movie, and what I want out of Star Wars in particular. It did literally everything I wanted it to.
I'm just so happy

My wife suggested we re-watch all 6 Six? I thought there were only three... I saw it and loved every second of it. Poe is an excellent character and I'm excited to see the new cast develop. More Phasma!

I loved it but I too wanted more Phasma. So glad they made a 4th Star Wars film.
Saw it early in the morning with my gaming group/roommates. Apparently they stole the typical character types from our table for the movie.

It was perfect. I have a list of bullet points of what I want out of a pulp sci-fi movie, and what I want out of Star Wars in particular. It did literally everything I wanted it to. I'm just so happy ...and that would be the point. J.J. Abrams has a style of reboot - watch the original, write down the points that work, thread them together and use incrementally complications in narrative development within the action. This isn't a bad thing, mind you. It's actually pretty smart and obviously effective. The fact he co-wrote it with Lawrence Kasdan was a big, big help. It's a shame Kasdan has already indicated he will not be working on the next one, so let's hope Abrams maintains the right tone without becoming too blatant and dependent in his callback to the source material. This I feel was part of the problem with Star Trek Into Darkness. That being said, the movie felt like a delightful relief, and made me slightly frustrated at George Lucas all over again. "This is all ya had to do, George! You didn't need to make it more complicated!"

A few people I know called the movie predictable. Seems a weird complaint. When I buy a cd by a band I know, I expect their sound. It's the brand of the product. Sure, you want variations on that theme, but I don't want to go buy a thrash metal album and get pop music instead. Everyone wanted old school Star Wars, and JJ delivered on that promise. When George made the prequels he broke away from old school and a lot of people rebelled against the change.
Being surprised is nice, but I'll take a predictable product that I like over an attempt to reinvent any old day.

Spoilers...
I read the book first, then watched it in the theater twice.
My observations upon reading the book:
1. "Huh, this is damn near the same story as Episode IV -- droid with secret information, hunted by the Empire (read: First Order), giant planet-sized superweapon that the rebellion (read: Resistance) needs to destroy before another planet gets it, a wise old man from a bygone era dies at the hands of the bad guy."
2. "Huh, Kylo Ren is the least frightening bad guy ever. He has temper tantrums. And, while his Force powers are impressive, he's weak willed."
Had the same observations watching the film.
The second time I saw it, Kylo Ren bothered me even more, but I figured they made him kind of lame so he can have an interesting character arc later on.
Then I talked to my daughter: "Kylo Ren is beautiful." Then it all fell into place. Kylo Ren is the tortured emo boy with great hair for the tweener girls to fall in love with. It all makes sense now.
Beyond those two complaints, I really liked it.
I thought they did a fantastic job of resolving some of the stories of the "old guard." The scenes with Leia and Han were wonderfully complicated, painful, wistful, all that. Set the tone for them to fade into the background and make room for a new generation of Star Wars heroes.
Poe, Finn and Rae are awesome characters and I look forward to seeing them in future movies (I hope none of them do something stupid like O.D. or drive off a cliff before the series finishes).
The special effects were fantastic, and the film in general was a perfect mix of action and story for an adventure film.
Snoke is the stupidest name for villain ever. Really?!

Spoilers... Snoke is the stupidest name for villain ever. Really?! Thanks to years of punk rock music, I honestly thought he was saying "Smoak" instead of Snoke. Which led me to thinking, "YES! FELICITY WILL RULE THE GALAXY!!!" ... ...aaaaaaaand you're lost.
