So, my name is Steven, witha 'V' sound. Not Ste-fan. Not Ste-von. Stee-ven. Steven. Hearing the crew debate how to say someone's name in 18-11 reminded me of experiances in foreign language classes where they wanted you to translate your name (I took bothGerman and Spanish, in case you were wondering). And I Haaaaaaate that shit. So much so I've told professors to call me by my proper name, unless they'd prefer I made up a name for them as well. Maybe this makes me pedantic, but I like my name the way it is damnit! Just wondering if anyone else out there shares this particular neuroses.

I also hate people mispronouncing my name, it isn't hard to pronounce but it has a silent letter in it.
I understand why, it is hard to know if people have a strange spelling.

Ilina is my online persona. but it bothers me a little when people call me Illina, Lillina, Lilliana or Iliana when Ilina is so easy to fucking spell. and i pronounce it Eye-Lee-Nuh. at least my other handle, Umbrie, is a lot easier for others to pronounce.

Kimi mispronounced my handle on twitch (same as here but with swe on the end) but that was mostly fun. But I have been miss gendered twice on other sites.

Neither have I. I do dislike having it shortened, or using alternates.

My first name just doesn't exist in most Latin languages, and the "L" in the middle is hard to say in some Asian languages. Then, then theres my last name... Leigh. Like "sleigh" without the "s". Not Lee. Not Leaf. Certainly not Leg. Leigh.

Living in Quebec was hell, because neither of my names translate to French pronunciation at ALL. QC government employees liked to call me Eater. The rest of my QC compatriots called me Edder.

I am fortunate enough to have a name which would require significant effort to mispronounce. My last name, however, is one that frequently gets a letter left off and subsequently mispronounced (Huntley is often spelled as Huntly, which gets sounded out as Hunt-lie instead of Hunt-lee).
My cousins have it much harder; their father married into our family, and he is Polish. Thus, they were given the family name of Omiecsynzky. I remember many times growing up I'd go to see one of their softball games, and the announcer would say something like, "Now up to bat, Kristen... Om... Omi... Omec! Kristen Omec!"
Ultimately, personally, I don't care what you call me. Thus "Probie Tim", heh.

My real name is phonetically correct and yet doctors offices insist on taking a swing at alternative vowel emphasis in a way that makes my name sound female. I know my gender is on the medical paperwork, it really isn't that hard to figure out how to pronounce my name.

I mostly deal with people swapping the Y for an I in Bryan, and adding extra Ls and/or Ds in Loyd (damn you, Gyan!).

My mother in law wrote my name that way for several years.

"Honey, our daughter married a brain in a jar. Can you remember what his name was?"
"...I think it was just Brain, Helen."
