which is intact a self contained micro universe in which the Chaos Titan can do its worst without realising that it has, in fact, been trapped, again . . . (Courtesy Morrison, MacCarthy and Yeowell - 'Zenith phase IV') That's some good shit! And of course although that traps the Chaos Titan, it doesn't trap its minions, who may not be too happy about this outcome. Wonder who they'll try to extract their vengeance on? And of course another arc is stopping the Chaos cultists from learning how to release the beast again (or ignoring them in which case when he gets out, he'll be looking straight for the PCs)

I'm going to say it. There was a point when Stork was about to say something interesting about Fate and two others started cracking jokes that I thought "oh just shut the fuck up, idiot boys, and let the man speak about games." At that point I'd had enough of the hi-jinks. For the first time on HJRPG, I almost stopped listening. At the risk of being expunged, yes, I agree with some of that. I still haven't listened to the second half yet. Maybe it works better if you drink (quite heavily) in parallel? When you got that many drunkies all in one place, everyone thinks they've got funny stuff to say (and for the most part, they did!) It did remind me a little about how I felt during the earlier days when Claire was just about to start giving an opinion to shed a little light into something, and Tappy would just turn whatever word she said into some sexual innuendo and derail the thought. It was kind of like that. But with more drinking. And less sexual innuendos.

Likewise, I've found a little drinkie, and a little other stuff, all works out well, but too much of the drink and it devolves into chaos. I learned my lesson one time GM-ing and running the players through a scene twice. They were all confused as shit when suddenly they were back at the town leaving... again. Everyone left at the end, and just in time for me to go upstairs and pray to the proverbial porcelain god.
I fortunately had recorded that evening, and used it as an embarrassing lesson on how NOT to GM a game.
That said, when it comes to the Saturday 8pm Dread games at Strategicon, I am always happy to get slowly wasted over the 3-4 hours. As is the GM, who becomes a bloodthirsty motherfucker and pits all us PCs against each other for Jenga tower after tower of death. Good times...

In case you are playing with your friends at home, and want to evoke the ambiance of the con, maybe they need to have as "Gamer Funk" option!

] tomes - Man, that Lego ship is GORGEOUS. Would you be willing to share some scenario info post-convention? I'd dearly love to hear how you used that (and Lego character sheets!!?) for an RPG. ...so I can steal the shit out of it. That information is forthcoming, my friend. :-) Give me time to recover from running this 3 times in a week, with my brain is fried from the con, and I had to head home early because my daughter has a 103 fever... But info coming.

Ultimately the onion rings stole the show, best damned onion rings EVAR. And with their home-made ketchup? /dies Have you tried their Cheesy Tots? They don't have it on the menu, and I've been to at least one of them (East Hollywood?) that doesn't serve them, but they are the shit... Large tater tots with cheese mixed into the potato nodules. God damn.

In the great battle between Chris and Umami, HyveMynd was the winner. This was back during his short visit in December.

Great episode. I shamefully admit I've never read Conan, but I've been heading that way. I did watch Arnie's version again a few weeks back, and gotta say, he wasn't half bad!

I will be there Thursday night, per usual. I go down to start setting up fairly early in the morning on Friday so if you arrive early come on down and say hello! I open up the sign up binders at 12pm SHARP. Unless you are particularly cool, can hunt me down before hand, ask nice and bribe me with an egg mcmuffin. Holy shaiza! Didn't know bribing was an option!

Be there bright and early on Friday (there is a Splendor game going on noon-2pm, and that's my favorite board game of last year), and then I'm running my Distress on LL928 Star Frontiers game at 2pm. Just playtested that last night, and I'm pretty happy on how it worked out (although it seems like it'd run better as a 5-6 hours game)
Looking forward to gaming! One of my few chances to play as a player this weekend.

Oh my, missed Kurt's mail the first time I listened (on the G+) but that Castle Panic board game for the battle simulation is great. I've been thinking that if you want a sandbox-y fantasy game, you could use something like Smallworld (board game) to setup the races and the sequence of events in their rise and fall over the first few centuries... this informs the history of the world, and could make some interesting racial and cultural backgrounds. I always thought that The Quiet Year would work well as a setup for an apocalypse themed game. It could inform the history that the PCs know about, or more personally could inform the community the PCs come from. I have 2 copies of Crossbows and Catapults I've picked up at thrift stores, and that could be a fun physical mechanic to use in a game... see this awesome site: zenseeker.net/BoardGames/BoardGames-CatapultGames.htm. You could even use it to setup the initial mass combat (see how many plastic minis the PCs can knock down) and that informs how many more enemies are there to charge them in the real RPG system's combat. What else?

"The players are the stars... the GM is the galaxy." Stu Venable: Is this the next HJ T-shirt? I'd buy. In regards to comments by tyler: 1. In regards to Jonas the GM worrying about being a player, Taylor said "Make the character a schemer". GENIUS advice. Definitely make a character which mimics those personality quirks you know you will possess yourself. Don't like fantasy games but your group wants to play that for a few sessions... great! Be the atheist, the one who doesn't believe in magic (no matter how obvious it is in front of you), the one who is from the future and found himself one day in fantasy land, etc. 2. "Dungeon World wouldn't work for a campaign." How could you be sooooo wrong. :-) I'm not caring if you guys play (I'm not that guy) but goddamn we've had such an awesome campaign with it this year, and advancement actually feels very fluid in that system, very choose-your-own class (instead of skills mechanically just fall in your lap).
